I had a rattlesnake that lived in my garage, but I never bothered it and it never bother me. Every spring I had baby rattlers all over the back yard coiled up and ready to fight. As long as they didn't bother me or the "kids" I never bothered them either.

Anything that eats rats and mice is my friend. If something like that gets too close, it's easy enough to shoo them into an old cooler or bucket with a broom and relocate them.
Plenty of non-poisonous snakes around to eat rodents. No reason to keep potentially dangerous snakes around, unless you intend to milk them for the venom. There is a kid that uses deadly snakes to to force rabbits from thier burrows into nets. (He hand catches the snakes). Personally, i think the kid is nuts. A non-poisonous snake would have the same effect. There is another guy that uses snake venom on arrow tips for small game, and even a scratch gives dead critters. Perhaps on blowdarts?
