I have an original 97 Winchester, it, the Model 12 Winchester, and the Ithaca Model 37 all have one characteristic that I really like in a pump gun, if you hold the trigger down, they fire as soon as the slide locks with a new round chambered. No other shotguns that I am aware of, does this. That said, I use my 97 shooting SASS matches and the bolt will eat your hand if you don't watch what you are doing.

 

I have the model 12 and a Stevens 520 ex GI trench broom... gotta love em...

 

Model 12 is my all-time favorite Shotgun, unless you start getting into things like Parker Side-by-Sides

 

is the first one better quality or about the same?

Over-priced. You can find them in the $300-400 range.
