How does your state rank? I think this guy did a good job. Looking at the chart and seeing the states with the least preppers made sense to me. This poll was based on: recently run a poll asking our readers to let us know which state they live in, I have drawn some VERY INTERESTING conclusions, and you might be surprised at what you see…

Seems the info was based on his viewership but looking at the top six states, I think those states have a tendency to prep or just live a different life from the materialism that sweeps our country. North Dakota came in 5th in the poll. ND is sparsely populated and I would assume that people have more in their cupboards then a city dweller. Prepper is a modern term for an old way of living. I think the graph is way off. We have 6 families right here on our lake that are preppers. 4 per million?? way way way off as far as Michigan goes.

You can't go off of who you know especially if all you hang out with is a bunch of preppers.

His research says there is 9,900,000 in Michigan.

 

I'm surprised the percentages are that high, but then I see a lot of availability for prepping supplies in my area.

 

Notice also, the states on the low end of the graph are the ones with the most large metropolitan areas..
Would seem, that the more rural a state the greater the connections with nature and just how harsh the living can be. So learning to be more far sighted and not getting caught short if life throws a curve at you. And you have to constantly prove yourself worthy of the privilege to live there..

 

You are correct Moto. Having worked/lived up there I can say that every farmer I met had HUGE pantries and more than one chest freezer. You have the sheep anywhere you want to look, but as a rule even the sheep in ND kept more in the way of "preps" simply because of the long harsh winters.

 

This graph and the data it represents is complete meaningless horse sh&t.

For starters, the chart is labelled "preppers per million". But if you read the article, he calculated it as a percentage of the total population. So which way is it? The two expressions are not even sort of the same.

But that's not what makes this horse sh%t. All the numbers were taken from an online survey, which is inherently inaccurate because of the non-random nature of the respondents.

He concluded that New Hampshire was the top state for prepperhood based on eighteen votes! What if 100 New Hampshirites said they were not peppers? Was that even a question on the survey?

Wyoming, the #2 state according to this baloney survey, had only eight votes. Therefore, he expects us to believe that, from the responses of barely two dozen people, he can accurately determine the top two prepper states. And so on down the line.

 

do real preppers have time to fill out silly polls?

Those are just the ones stupid enough to admit they are preppers to some anonymous caller. All kidding aside.

Maybe some one just failed statistics or chart making class.
Lets say according to that on average all over the country there are 5 people out of 1 million. Then that would mean there are only 1,800 preppers in the US.
But I seem to recall reading that the "prepper and survival industry" was one of the fastest growing industries, with sales topping 1 billion in sales per year (and this was a few years ago) and was expected to top 2 billion before 2020. No way less than 2000 people are spending that much money.
Look at the name of the file, it says "percentage of preppers", I think that chart is much more likely to be percentage than parts per million. If I didn't know any better I would say the federal government made that chart. PPM, percentage its all the same to them.

So roughly 10M people...at about 4 preppers per mill, that means maybe 40 preppers in the state...

 

The way I looked at it results is New Hampshire is the Free State Project and Wyoming was the runner up and years ago the Governor of WY was looking into prepping for an event. PA- we only have 2 on here from PA that are prepared so that looked true. This is based on his readership. If we ran a poll it would be heavy in the PNW and the South because that is where our membership heavily comes from. I do not think we have many from NY, RI or MA. I was surprised that CO ranked so high but then I know that other sites have more Coloradans, for some reason they do not stick around here.

 

Well, I don't consider myself a 'prepper' per say but I suppose others might consider me that. For me, I am just being prudent and consider it common sense after some of the tragedies where it proved that one cannot rely on anyone (certainly not the State or Federal government) if disaster hits. So...no, I don't consider myself a prepper.

 

There are hundreds of Michigan Preppers registered at Survivalboards.com.

I just counted 160 on one forum (Michigan) and there are over 5000 Michigan Militia members which is way down from the 90's when we had near 30 thousand They are all preppers. I have 22 just in my family alone. Facebook is loaded with folks local here that are buying chickens rabbits etc. Im connected with quite few there as well. I think the number is more like 20 to 30 thousand preppers in Michigan.
