Been lurking around for the past few weeks and figured I should say something. I have found a great deal of information on this site and everyone seems to be very willing to share. I live in Southern California with my wife, and have felt that we needed to take some kind of action, but what? This site has provide many great suggestions and ideas. What I have learned so far it that no matter how little or insignificant your action may seem, doing something, anything, is better than doing nothing at all. Every extra can of food, bottle of water, or roll of toilet paper can help improve your chances of survival. Hopefully, somewhere along the way, I can add some tidbits of informations.
My thoughts exactly. Plus slowly and steadily building your stash/knowledge set you ahead of those around you. Since you are S. Cal, I have a question. What do you see as your biggest natural threat? Fire or earthquakes? Glad you found us.

Welcome! We have family out there and the first thing I'd advise anyone out there is: get a swimming pool. Water is going to be an enormous problem if there is ever a devastating event. I envy your sunshine. This is the place and time to get moving!!
Earthquakes are the biggest concern. I live near Cajon Pass where the San Andreas passes through. The house I have is a single-story stick-frame, and the first thing I did was to add extra foundation bolts just so the sucker didn't slide off. The garage is detached so even if I loose the house I could live out of the garage.
You say "living out of the garage" like it's a bad thing. Garages and barns are the last refuges of mankind from womankind. Welcome to the tree.
Welcome! As another SoCal native my only piece of advice is get out while you can! Wait, that's the advice I took. I just couldn't see surviving there if and when shtf. Good luck to you, lots of good people here and a vast amount of knowledge and info.
