The Futility of an Armed Revolt

“A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty.”—James Madison

America is a ticking time bomb.

All that remains to be seen is who—or what—will set fire to the fuse.

We are poised at what seems to be the pinnacle of a manufactured breakdown, with police shooting unarmed citizens, snipers shooting police, global and domestic violence rising, and a political showdown between two presidential candidates equally matched in unpopularity.

The preparations for the Republican and Democratic national conventions taking place in Cleveland and Philadelphia—augmented by a $50 million federal security grant for each city—provide a foretaste of how the government plans to deal with any individual or group that steps out of line: they will be censored, silenced, spied on, caged, intimidated, interrogated, investigated, recorded, tracked, labeled, held at gunpoint, detained, restrained, arrested, tried and found guilty.

For instance, anticipating civil unrest and mass demonstrations in connection with the Republican Party convention, Cleveland officials set up makeshift prisons, extra courtrooms to handle protesters, and shut down a local university in order to house 1,700 riot police and their weapons. The city’s courts are preparing to process up to 1,000 people a day. Additionally, the FBI has also been conducting “interviews” with activists in advance of the conventions to discourage them from engaging in protests.

Make no mistake, the government is ready for a civil uprising.

Indeed, the government has been preparing for this moment for years.

A 2008 Army War College report revealed that “widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security.” The 44-page report goes on to warn that potential causes for such civil unrest could include another terrorist attack, “unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency, pervasive public health emergencies, and catastrophic natural and human disasters.”

Subsequent reports by the Department of Homeland Security to identify, monitor and label right-wing and left-wing activists and military veterans as extremists (a.k.a. terrorists) have manifested into full-fledged pre-crime surveillance programs. Almost a decade later, after locking down the nation and spending billions to fight terrorism, the DHS has concluded that the greater threat is not ISIS but domestic right-wing extremism.

Meanwhile, the government has been amassing an arsenal of military weapons for use domestically and equipping and training their “troops” for war. Even government agencies with largely administrative functions such as the Food and Drug Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Smithsonian have been acquiring body armor, riot helmets and shields, cannon launchers and police firearms and ammunition. In fact, there are now at least 120,000 armed federal agents carrying such weapons who possess the power to arrest.

Rounding out this profit-driven campaign to turn American citizens into enemy combatants (and America into a battlefield) is a technology sector that is colluding with the government to create a Big Brother that is all-knowing, all-seeing and inescapable. It’s not just the drones, fusion centers, license plate readers, stingray devices and the NSA that you have to worry about. You’re also being tracked by the black boxes in your cars, your cell phone, smart devices in your home, grocery loyalty cards, social media accounts, credit cards, streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon, and e-book reader accounts.

All of this has taken place right under our noses, funded with our taxpayer dollars and carried out in broad daylight without so much as a general outcry from the citizenry.

It’s astounding how convenient we’ve made it for the government to lock down the nation.

We’ve even allowed ourselves to be acclimated to the occasional lockdown of government buildings, Jade Helm military drills in small towns so that special operations forces can get “realistic military training” in “hostile” territory, and Live Active Shooter Drill training exercises, carried out at schools, in shopping malls, and on public transit, which can and do fool law enforcement officials, students, teachers and bystanders into thinking it’s a real crisis.

The events of recent years—the invasive surveillance, the extremism reports, the civil unrest, the protests, the shootings, the bombings, the military exercises and active shooter drills, the color-coded alerts and threat assessments, the fusion centers, the transformation of local police into extensions of the military, the distribution of military equipment and weapons to local police forces, the government databases containing the names of dissidents and potential troublemakers—have all conjoined to create an environment in which “we the people” are more distrustful and fearful of each other and more reliant on the government to keep us safe.

    Of course, that’s the point.

The powers-that-be want us to feel vulnerable.

They want us to fear each other and trust the government’s hired gunmen to keep us safe from terrorists, extremists, jihadists, psychopaths, etc.

Most of all, the powers-that-be want us to feel powerless to protect ourselves and reliant on and grateful for the dubious protection provided by the American police state.

    Their strategy is working.

The tree of liberty is dying.

There will be no second American Revolution.

There is no place in our nation for the kind of armed revolution our forefathers mounted against a tyrannical Great Britain. Such an act would be futile and tragic. We are no longer dealing with a distant, imperial king but with a tyrant of our own making: a militarized, technologized, heavily-financed bureaucratic machine that operates beyond the reach of the law.

The message being sent to the citizenry is clear: there will be no revolution, armed or otherwise.

Anyone who believes that they can wage—and win—an armed revolt against the American police state has not been paying attention. Those who wage violence against the government and their fellow citizens are playing right into the government’s hands. Violence cannot and will not be the answer to what ails America.

Whether instigated by the government or the citizenry, violence will only lead to more violence. It does not matter how much firepower you have. The government has more firepower.

It does not matter how long you think you can hold out by relying on survivalist skills, guerilla tactics and sheer grit. The government has the resources to outwait, out-starve, outman, outgun and generally overpower you.

This government of wolves will not be overtaken by force.

Unfortunately, we waited too long to wake up to the government’s schemes.

We did not anticipate that “we the people” would become the enemy. For years, the government has been warning against the dangers of domestic terrorism, erecting surveillance systems to monitor its own citizens, creating classification systems to label any viewpoints that challenge the status quo as extremist, and training law enforcement agencies to equate anyone possessing anti-government views as a domestic terrorist.

What the government failed to explain was that the domestic terrorists would be of the government’s own making, whether intentional or not.

By waging endless wars abroad, by bringing the instruments of war home, by transforming police into extensions of the military, by turning a free society into a suspect society, by treating American citizens like enemy combatants, by discouraging and criminalizing a free exchange of ideas, by making violence its calling card through SWAT team raids and militarized police, by fomenting division and strife among the citizenry, by acclimating the citizenry to the sights and sounds of war, and by generally making peaceful revolution all but impossible, the government has engineered an environment in which domestic violence has become inevitable.

What we are now experiencing is a civil war, devised and instigated in part by the U.S. government.

The outcome for this particular conflict is already foregone: the police state wins.

    The objective: compliance and control.

The strategy: destabilize the economy through endless wars, escalate racial tensions, polarize the populace, heighten tensions through a show of force, intensify the use of violence, and then, when all hell breaks loose, clamp down on the nation for the good of the people and the security of the nation.

So where does that leave us?

Despite the fact that communities across the country are, for all intents and purposes, being held hostage by a government that is armed to the teeth and more than willing to use force in order to “maintain order,” most Americans seem relatively unconcerned. Worse, we have become so fragmented as a nation, so hostile to those with whom we might disagree, so distrustful of those who are different from us, that we are easily divided and conquered.

We have been desensitized to violence, acclimated to a military presence in our communities and persuaded that there is nothing we can do to alter the seemingly hopeless trajectory of the nation. In this way, the floundering economy, the blowback arising from military occupations abroad, police shootings, the nation’s deteriorating infrastructure and all of the other mounting concerns have become non-issues to a populace that is easily entertained, distracted, manipulated and controlled.

The sight of police clad in body armor and gas masks, wielding semiautomatic rifles and escorting an armored vehicle through a crowded street, a scene likened to “a military patrol through a hostile city,” no longer causes alarm among the general populace.

We are fast becoming an anemic, weak, pathetically diluted offspring of our revolutionary forebears incapable of mounting a national uprising against a tyrannical regime.

If there is to be any hope of reclaiming our government and restoring our freedoms, it will require a different kind of coup: nonviolent, strategic and grassroots, starting locally and trickling upwards. Such revolutions are slow and painstaking. They are political, in part, but not through any established parties or politicians.

Most of all, as I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, for any chance of success, such a revolution will require more than a change of politics: it will require a change of heart among the American people, a reawakening of the American spirit, and a citizenry that cares more about their freedoms than their fantasy games.

You know what we never heard from Obama last year that was that 50 years ago the voting right act was passed yet our first black president did not use this unprecedented event to rally the black community. Why Not ?
In 1965 the Democrats worked to block this act from passing where about 1/3 of Democrats voted no to passing this act.
Only two Republicans voted no against it, 98% voted for it.
Why is it that every attempt to expose Hilary Clinton was met with lies, deaths and deceit but a multitude of agents and government office leaders? Why is it no one remembers Hilary lied and manipulated facts and materials regarding Nixons impeachment hearings in 1974 then openly admitted these acts later on. Bill Clinton lied under oath to a grand jury committing perjury and obstructing justice.
William Jefferson Clinton, President of the United States, was to be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, Something you wont see in the press and is long buried.

By all logical sense these two should not be having a run at the White House and instead should be wondering what movie is playing in prison Saturday night. They are above the law, why is this important to note ? Because the Prior 8 years also had our current president by-pass Constitutional laws and no charges were brought against him, why not ?

Why not is what most normal people would ask, but they wouldn't ask if they realize there is a certain set of rules for you and I, and there are different set of rules for those in power. And what is and has been occurring is civil conditioning.
It is allot like taking and addict to recovery they get sober by believing they can make a difference in their own lives.
When in reality you only make a difference in your own lives based on parameters you are allowed to have and thats it.
There are no land or home owners no one owns land or houses here. Try not paying taxes and face reality quick.
Try posting you want to take out the countries leader on facebook and see reality. Try looking to testify against those in power
and the next time they read your name is at a funeral. There is allot of scary stuff going on that we all talk about, now take a deep breath and realize what you think you know is not even close to what is really happening and even when you find out a small tid bit. Like Obama is really a Muslim and not a citizen what power will you have to do anything about it, you wont.

The only ability citizens in this modern country is the ability to be annoying enough that we get some benefits to appease us.
Trump in all reality will win, why ? Because we have built up the horror that is Hilary and to win with Trump would help Americans feel justified and normal and then those in power can feel they appeased the civilians for now and we all go back to our lives until unrest is needed again to help us see our value of which there is none. Its just what they let you believe is what your value is.

But we will forget our place and forget we are slaves and owned, and go back to thinking we have rights.
I guess we did once, but most are along gone. Revolution is about the only way the country would return to the people.
Well the few people that would be left would be very few.

Core has been mentioned in a number of recent novels, and now Anonymous has released a video warning impending targeting of citizens deemed problematic. Dots have begun to show up on mailboxes around the country, placed there by the only Federal employee that visits your house daily. Some have tried to explain that this is to mark houses that get news papers, but News papers are delivered to your mail-box. I have had a green dot on my mail-box for months now and recently, a red one added. A neighbor down the lane has the same. we are both a bit out-spoken patriot types. I have removed my dots twice, they get replaced. Remember when the Gulf of Tonkin conspiracy was tin-foil hat material? Google Core/NSA and mailbox dots and make up your own mind, but let me say again, there are dots on my box.

The Government can spends Billions preparing for whatever, makes no difference....NONE....Large majority of Soldiers and LEO's will not follow orders to attack or disarm Citizens....FACT....You can throw out a million reasons as to why you think they will.....when the shtf they will side with America, not Tyrants, Thugs and Terrorists.....If just the 3% fight back that is a bigger Army than all the Government people put together....and that would grow quickly if it comes to a fight.....If you feel otherwise you are already hiding under your couch......

Until recently, I would have agreed that American citizens could not, even if necessary, stand against a Federal funded and equipped attempt to force an agenda that goes against our Constitution and free will. I have seen the real power this country can bring to bear if desired and I could not imagine even another nation standing against it. What changed my opinion on this was a book, one book out of the thousands I have read in my lifetime - "Unintended Consequences."

I believe our government understands that should they decided to force their agenda then they shall, in return, meet force, not in the standard Red on Blue of a standard military engagement but what has been shown to us with the successful start of our nation. The patriots did not win the battles of Lexington and Concord but they won when General Gage tried to return to barracks and was met with fire around every bend of road, from behind every tree, from every advantage point possible decimating his troops and destroying their morale. This example by the American patriots has been replicated in every country that has thrown out their Lords and Masters throughout the world.

You see, I know longer believe we should fear that the Federal government now has '120,000 armed agents' because it is those same Federal agents that should fear 10 million armed and angry American citizens...and I am sure they do. As example, I point out the horrible killing of 5 police officers in Dallas and the wounding of 7 others by 1 deranged assailant. I think I do not need to point out what would have happened if there were 2 assailants or 5 or 10... And, if I know this and you know this then one can be assured the police forces around the country and certainly the Federal Agencies know this.

You will tell me that a person cannot stand against an Apache gunship and that is true. Frankly, I have used this argument myself. But, I tell you that an Apache gunship cannot fly without its pilot. And, God forbid something like this happens, those that turn from our people and use their skills to hurt the citizens of this nation will be considered traitors and will not be given a second chance to do so. Furthermore, they would put their family in danger by their actions. And, the stronger the government reacts and forces their agenda the more they force citizens to defend their loved ones, homes and their nation. Numbers is their biggest weakness and many a battle and war has been won by attrition alone. I give you Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union as a perfect example.

Yes, the Federal government is powerful with arms, technology, funds and even law on their side yet they have serious weaknesses and are extremely vulnerable. In short, they cannot win and they know this. In fact, it would be a complete nightmare for them to try and would destroy everything they have accomplished to date - and - once destroyed, the changes that follow would ensure they would not get a second chance. They know this!

Their ONLY chance is to disarm the citizenry FIRST and, if they succeed, then slavery within a Totalitarian state is a forgone conclusion. This is my opinion...

Ahh - the Gov't cannot even get control of gang-rules areas in the inner cites.

Gangs are the "hidden army' few think about.
Some semi-recent history - The military and the LA riots.
Foreign Military Studies Office Publications - Combat in Cities: The LA Riots and Operation Rio

No apple polishing in this document

". . . politics and egos had a significant impact on various important decisions made during the riots . . . Sometimes senior officials merely wanted to appear fully "in charge," or posture themselves to take maximum advantage of the incredible numbers of media personnel in the area. At other times, decisions were made to help justify more questionable decisions made previously."

The bickering that attended the LA riots contributed to the difficulties that bedeviled CNG and Regular Army commanders operating in the politically charged interagency environment. The decision to federalize the CNG caused great anxiety among the Guard troops.

    The Guardview
The 1992 Los Angeles Riots: Military Operations in Los Angeles, 1992

A bit of apple polishing here and there, but a lot of good stuff as well. The opening is sobering:
Parts of Los Angeles can be extremely dangerous. The county had over 100,000 gang members and there were 771 gang-related homicides reported in 1991. It is not surprising that many police officers admit they "lost the streets" some years ago, with many neighborhoods in the city dominated by rival gangs. "
    (I added the boldface)

I would note that:A divisional unit in the United States Army typically consists of 17,000 to 21,000 soldiers commanded by a major general. Two Division and some aux units equals a Corps. These numbers came from LA County alone and in 1991.

The US currently has 10 activie duty Division units. The US Army Guard has 8 Divisions. The USMC has four Divisions and a single Reserve Division.

Gang membership in the United States was conservatively estimated at 1 million members as of September 2008, based on analysis of federal, state, and local law enforcement reporting--an increase from an estimated 800,000 members in 2005. Current estimates include approximately 900,000 gang members residing within local communities across the country and more than 147,000 documented gang members incarcerated in federal, state, and local correctional facilities, according to state and federal corrections data.

I found the math disturbing, and it became a great plot device for my WoC series of books..
I don't know how the gangs would react to a wide scale disaster, but they now outnumber police forces in many areas of the US.

For a fun weekend read, try the
DoD Directive 3025.12 Titled "Military Assistance for Civil Disturbances." (No, you can look it up if *you* are serious about reading it. Really. Otherwise, sleep well at night.)

    Oh, yeah. Fun.

So long as politics holds sway, nobody is safe in their homes... Just an observation.

@DKR In all honestly, I never even considered gangs. However, all-in-all, I think the majority would go against the Federals. But, there would be others that would prey on both sides, taking advantage of the situation. And, you're right, those are scary numbers! Yeah, never considered them...sort of organized, definitely armed, definitely prone to violence.

"A divisional unit in the United States Army typically consists of 17,000 to 21,000"
Those numbers are high or might represent a fully fleshed out division at combat strength which is ~20% higher than normal.

" it became a great plot device for my WoC series of books..."
What does WoC stand for and I will give them a look? Have you published them?

Armed revolts only work when those taking up arms against their government have nothing left to lose.

Right now, there is EBT, SSI, SSDI, VA benefits, Vouchers, SNAP, and a litany of other programs. As long as they keep printing the money .. it's business as usual.

In the beginning, I would bet it would be a bunch of local leaders. It might get organized into something national but time, distance, events, and the opposition technology superior would make be bet against it. I guess what I am saying is I think there will not be Leader per say but a bunch of them, some will work together but most would never even hear of each of other. Again, my opinion...

Post SHTF, it will take time to have leaders emerge.... it will take time for leaders of various groups to meet, and come to some accord... it will take more time to unify in their endeavors. Time is a precious commodity....Time, will be fleeting for many and only the strong & prepared will survive that duration.
