It has been confirmed by Supreme Council of radio and television of Turkey (RTUK) the news that Mr. Erdogan – the president of Turkey has revoked 3213 national ham radio licenses. The HF radio in Turkey is now silent. No transmissions are allowed. Following the coup d’etat – of July 5th – many things are changing in Turkey. TV , Radio licenses have been cancelled and this involved also our colleagues : ham radio amateurs. The number of amateur radio operators in Turkey is not too much, but according to the site TRAC.org it looks like that around 3000 licenses...

There is a reason 'rebels' size radio and TV stations.....

up next, the executions, and unarmed american soldiers on a base with nukes.

but it was all just too convenient. thousands in the military, 3 thousand secular judges culled.

If they aren't loading up USA nukes for transport back to the US right now they're making a big fucking mistake.
Meanwhile in the good ole USA no one knows shit about whats going on in Turkey because we've been divided and sidetracked with politics and dead cops. Something smells rotten about the whole thing and we should be very concerned.they were set up by Binali Yıldırım.
Binali, The guy in charge did this to gain more power over the democracy that was in place.
At this pace, He will soon be a dictator. Hopefully he wont become radicalized, or assassinated. If either happens,
Luckily Turkey is only kept in check, because it is a NATO nation. If they do anything wrong, they will be sanctioned by NATO. And they will lose favourable trading status with other nations.
we are still a year away from really finding out, what Turkey will become. A Islamo-facist nation, or a secular fascist dictatorship.

Turkey is in the usual process of the "enhanced" democratic process. Have a "legal" election to elect a president who then outlaws the opposition and then either does not hold any more elections or holds sham elections. Very common in Africa, but has good world wide historical backgrounds. Hitler for one was "elected" and that went well for the German people in the long run. The same process is used in Iran, many African countries, China, Russia, and some would love the spread of it to the USA. We are in the midst of the latest ethnic and religious cleansing in most of the world. Only the democratic Christians in the "civilized" world are ignoring it. It looks like if you are Christian or Jewish or any other religion other than Moslem your days are numbered in Turkey, all ready over in most of the middle east and north africa. There is either a moslem government or chaos in most of the region and it is spreading and consolidating their power. We are all focused on the next election, a few months away, our free sh** and wanting to either limit it or keep getting it, and they are focused on a battle that has lasted for about 1400 years. Their "book" tells them that anything and everything is legal and right in the "holy war". I don't know the answer as to how to stop the process and any questioning of it in our present climate makes you a religious, racial, bigot and the question is ignored.

I think it is pretty obvious where this is heading just by what has happened so far after the coup attempt, especially the shutting down of radios and teachers/deans at the universities. I am not so sure their desire to remain in NATO is as strong as been stated. I have visited Turkey many times and can say most that I met in the Ankara, Istanbul, and Adana areas were modern in thought, appearance and deed, but those are people of the major cities. Nevertheless, it might be more difficult to lead this nation into extremism than they anticipate.

Turns out the story is not correct. Hams in Turkey are (for now) allowed to continue.

    My apologies.

  10. My friend, come, have some tea... Now you must buy a carpet! I bailed on my 3 week vacation to Istanbul after 4 days and spent the rest of my time in Romania. Nothing against their culture, it just clashed with my desire to be left in peace.

I visited Turkey one time and found it less then pleasant but not as bad as I had heard.I ended up returning to Odessa for the remainder of my trip and have not regretted that one bit! I would be watching Israel for signs of trouble, when they start getting worried ( more then normal ) that's when I run!

You'll find the hawkers anywhere there are tourists. Try going to the pyramids in Egypt sometime. You can't get away from them. I am in Istanbul frequently and it is a beautiful city. The grand bazaar has an ancient, medieval feel to it. I have been blessed with the chance to visit many European cities and Istanbul is one of my favorites. Paris is my all time favorite city and it breaks my heart to see both of them rocked by violence.

Yeah, aside from the strife and fanaticism in that part of the world, I find the whole, "It's polite to bathe the person you are talking to in your breath," thing just too foreign and off putting.
