Do you remember these and what they were used for? It amazes me how times have changed. I don’t ever recall hearing of someone being scared of these or scared of one being used. It just was. I think they could be illegal now.
Why that's your Easy Rider Rifle Rack. (c) Used to see those (complete with weapons) at high school Of course, it was a less lawless time.
Looks to be about a 66/67 cheve with a worn out bench seat . THATS MY TRUCK" LOL not really, mine's at home. Carrying the guns there is good. Long as the ammo is locked up, your good to go.
I remeber those, my dad had one in his truck when I was growing up. And in high school some of the people that I hung out with had them. Now days that would be a tell tell sign that you have something of valve in your truck, plus trucks now days are not as cool as the older ones.
Just about every pickup in the parking lot at my high school had one. Half of them had something in them too. This was in a wealthy Dallas suburb, not Mule Fart, TX like where I am now, so you'd think if any place would have an issue with it they would have, but nope.
When I moved here 20 years ago students at the highschool still had firearms in their trucks using these.
Still have mine in my Jeep, a set for each rear side window, coarse they are for fishing rods now days! LOL We used to have a match rifle shooting team at my high school, and some of us had out very own target rifles ( .22's) and after school we had daily match practice and on fridays we had the match! When the season was over. we usually went out hunting small game, and some times, some of our teachers went with us! Hunting season would see a switch to a high power or a shot gun, depending on season! Sure do miss those days!
Still used here where I live in fact if a shooting took place in the Wal-Mart where I am at I could hit one or two trucks and most likely have more fire power than the one doing the shooting.
Every male in my family had a rack (usually filled) no one cared. Now I see ball caps and lariats hanging off of them.
From the time I was old enough to tell the difference between a toy truck and a real truck until some time in the 1980's just about 100% of the trucks in my area had one and many of them were populated by a Winchester Model 94. A truck just wasn't complete without one, but those were the days when the rear bumper came free with the truck.
Today, the main risk of have those would be smash and grab robberies. Most rural communities in my AO wil have a fair number of tweakers and junkies. It would be nice to go back to that era.
I also packed a rifle to school in one. Not enough daylight to run home after school during hunting season.
Every ranch truck in the high school parking lot in Montana had a shottie and a long gun of some form..... of course we did not care so much about local fish and game regs back then... we hunted year round for subsistence. Self defense shooting back then, constituted an angry bear or a yote messing with live stock. Now days, as said above.... you are going to get a smash and grab on your rig, if you leave a weapon unattended in the rack.
Yep, Starting Sept. 15th through Dec.1st in high school, if the car or truck had good dose of mud splashed on it sitting in the parking lot .. there probably was a firearm either in the back window, behind the seat or in the trunk. I know when the school bell rang, I was out the door and onto state land until dusk.
my trucks been parked for a few months now that we have a 3rd car. when i drive it, it usually has a gun or three in the racks on the back window! ive been stopped with guns in my window too and when i handed over my CHL the officer notices them says "how do you like that mossberg? ive been lookin at buying one!" Long story short... no speeding ticket. "have a nice day!"
I was raised in Louisiana... In high school Every truck had one in the window..and they were full! back then it wasnt a question if a gun was in the truck...you just knew
