i have been hunting since i have been 6 ... maybe 7 ... and i have always had to dress out my own game ... and my fathers ...

    here is my problem ...
we have a friend... loves to hunt ... but he cannot dress out his own deer ....

this has me and 5 others pissed off ... we shoot and dress out our own .. but he cannot

so far we have carried him for the past 7-8 years every deer he has shot.. and we are full .... aka done .... how in the hell can we get him to dress out his own deer ... without telling him to F off ...
out of the 5 of us ... 3 help him dress a deer out ,, and we are full... we do ours and get a call every time to help him recover ... drag it out ,,, then one of us has to dress it out (gut it) for him ......
all of us said he needs to dress out his own this year...

are we being fair or unfair ????

i have asked this question before .... but not on this forum i need a little incite ... because i do not feel like being called in the middle of my hunts to gut his deer ... drag out ... maybe ...

If he isn't handicapped or other wise physically unable to do his own, then it's all on him! If he cant stomach the "work" part of hunting then he has no business hunting! I would put it to him, tell him it's all on him from the kill all the way to the freezer, if this displeases him, tell him where he can go!

I think I would go in with the boys on a "Butt out" rectum remover from your favorite sporting goods store as a gift and then make sure my cell phone battery was dead. He ought to get the hint.

i like to dress mine but a buddy in my group offers to do it for EVERYONE because he loves doin it. i still usually do it anyway. i do think that if he is going to take an animal that he needs to be held accountable for what happens to it after the fact.

You are totally fair... you have assisted him for years. If he can't do it other than due to some physical disability...then he should not be hunting. You guys have spent time teaching, coaching and mentoring him.... time for him to step up or go home.

Tell him this year to "Put on your big girl panties" and step up to the plate.

If you dont respect the animal enough to finish the job and harvest it correctly, stay the f**k out of the field!

There is no room for this attitude in the field today.

If he is fully capable of finishing the job, but dosent like the mess....again stay the f**k out of the field and hunt at the grocery store where the rest of the pussys hunt...

I hope I got my point across.

A lot depends on age, I don't mind doing it, but at 78 some of it requires a little help. Age and condition have a lot to do with hunting, you may not lose your skills, but you do lose a lot of physical strength. S

You kill it, you clean it. Simple as that in my book!

Those are the rules posted in Hunting Camp. The mistake you made was doing it numerous times. First time- show, second time- stand behind and watch, giving pointers and the third should have been on his own. Your kindness enabled that behavior and sadly it has made you not want to hunt near him. I say enabling not in a bad way. People are good and helpful, always willing to lend a hand but some are just lazy. @duane is correct that it could be a chore is the friend is older, in that case then helping would e the correct thing. But if your buddy is able to do it themselves then tell him to. Not your problem. If it causes an issue that is his problem not yours.

I think you guys have been more than fair and, to be honest, it sickens me that he would kill something then not get his hands bloody. I hate this type of mentally and I think you need to step down hard on him, all of you, peer pressure. I would tell him before you leave to go on the hunt so he can make the decision to stay or go, no sense getting out there and causing a scene or damaging friendships. Tell him before you.

I am of the mind if ' you kill it, you clean it!' The man should not be hunting.

umm ... he is 43 44 years of age ... not disabled other than if he gets a smell of the gut sack he starts puking ...
even at the slighted whiff ...

growing up ... i got shown once ... coached once ... and left to my own vices .. we do not mind helping him out but as i see in the replies ... we have been more than fair to him .. and it is time he starts field dressing his own deer ...

par for the course .. when we call him to help us drag one out ... he is always busy ...
and keeping that in mind.. he make the shot .. then calls us .. we help recover and drag it out ... then we gut it for him ... and he keeps all the meat .. with no offer at all of a roast steaks or burger .. for us helping him ...
just saying .. we have carried him for so many years .. we feel it is time for him to man up .. and finish the job he started .. ... did not say we will not help recover/drag the deer out ... BUT ... he needs to field dress it himself ... as others have stated ...if you cannot finish the job yourself .. do not hunt or stay out of the field..
