I just have to wonder if I'm daft or just treated like a typical sheeple. Especially when I get a reply from one of the many (I won't call them elected officials) politicians that have been chosen by the low information voters in my state.
I summon their worthiness a lot due to the constant barrage of stupid ideas these people & groups with special interests come up with. The latest was in reference to the amount of ethanol that the lobbyists want to increase. We all know (or should have done our homework on this if we have a boat or motorcycle) that this ethanol eats up most plastic fuel tanks, fuel lines, gums up injectors and carburetors.
I sent a class action type notification to US senator Murray asking her to not bump her head and vote for this insane action.
This is the reply that was sent from her office:

    "Dear Mr. Caveman:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about ethanol. It was good to hear from you.

As you know, in the United States ethanol is mixed with gasoline to create a blended fuel. Ethanol, which is traditionally produced from corn, can use large inputs of chemicals and resources. Research has shown more energy and resource efficient ethanol may be produced from cellulosic plant material such as grasses and further research is being conducted to find better products to produce ethanol.

Ethanol production has increased in the last several years because there is growing interest in decreasing our country’s dependence on foreign petroleum and reducing emissions that contribute to greenhouse gases. Federal tax credits and incentives for production have also contributed to the increased use of ethanol.

Energy policy is one of the most critical issues facing our nation. While I support renewable energy development and conservation measures that will reduce our nation’s dependence on fossil fuels, I recognize not all alternatives should be supported, and I believe we should look at the relative merits of each alternative fuel. As a member of the Senate Renewable Energy Caucus and the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to support efforts to diversify our energy portfolio with alternative energy sources that make the sense for our nation.

Again, thank you for writing. I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind as the Senate continues to address related legislation during the 114th Congress. If you would like to know more about my work in the Senate, please feel free to sign up for my updates at Senator Murray. Please keep in touch. "

While I am elated to hear her position on this matter I am a little peeved at the condescending tone of the first two paragraphs in red. The initial contact to her office explained in greater detail of the problem than the reply I received. Now I don't know why these politicians treat their constituents like they don't know anything with condescending responses? I just don't get it.....

SO, this person is going ahead and pushing for something that the FED has banned? The E.P.A. found the use of ethanol fuels led to increased pollution, increased maintenance costs and a decrease in performance while increasing pollution! there have also been several class action law suits against States and D.E.Q. for failing to follow actual documented sientific proof that this was so! Several manufactures have also launched class action suits for increasing warranty claims for un due wear and tear of fuel systems and serious damages to new engines as well as old! I am still waiting on my claim for full replacement of a $6000 outboard motor that self destructed because of this fuel!

Yes, recently there was a push to up from 15% to 25%. That's why there was an action alert to contact legislators.
It's BS that there is any ethanol in most all gasoline available to the public, just totally unacceptable that our GOV has a hand in this corrupt undermining.

I have always paid extra for GAS (the real unadulterated gasoline) for my boats and home machines.

Hmmm. true ethanol is a renewable source of energy... but even if there were no mechanical issues you would think that they would realize that in creased use of ethanol cuts into the food base of our country... more ethanol = higher meat prices...

All a great big PorkBelly to the people at large! Combined with the feds taking the zink out of motor oil, that has cost me three engines, the fuel which cost me two engines, and the fuel systems for all my gas engines all totaling THOUSANDS I demand the feds and the STATE reimburse me for forcing compliance on me with out due process!!!

Most of my interactions with politicians go very similar to the one in the OP. But, there are a few that actually take the time to listen and to respond. I make careful note of these folks. What's interesting to me, here in Oregon, the ones that have taken the time to actually write their own thoughts, not send condescending pre-written letters with absolutely no response to my actual concerns/questions, have all been Republicans. To date, not a single Democrat politician has bothered to give me more than a canned response. As I'm not a registered Dem or Republican, I would think they would look at my vote as one that would interest them - apparently not.

Thanks for "Getting it". Where I live there are no R's or I's in my district so when I do get a response it is a canned and condescending response. If I could hear I'd be doing a lot of calling to see if I could actually converse with the implied person.

And that such proposals would get bipartisan support??? I'm doubtful that many politicians would pass that exam, even if their respective parties gave them the go ahead to do their best! ;)

Given the low general esteem granted by many of the uneducated, and unwashed, to academics; giving professors a critical (as in rooly rooly important) role in evaluating politicians' due diligence, would seem to me to be an utterly absurd fantasy. Each party would be working their butts off to stack the professorial proctology panel incumbents with values and beliefs sympathetic to their own respective side of politics: Much as they do with SCOTUS appointments. SPOTUS (Supreme Proctors Of The United States...does have a nice ring to it though. :ROFLMAO:

Given the inane, and barely comprehensible speeches delivered in the Congressional and Senate Houses by some political representatives, I'm doubtful that much, if any legislation would ever get passed at all.

I want to vote on everything. I no longer want my Congressman or Senator to do my voting for me. They can inform me with Executive Summary papers on the items that demand by attention and vote.

Ethanol reduced the price of gas by about 10% when they introduced it. I also noticed that my mileage went down 10%, so the net result is my vehicles have less range. It's a total waste and would be better to use the grain for food and liquor. Naturally, they are now all giddy at foisting E15 at us...

Well the GOV does pay a select bunch of farmers NOT to grown crops, are they tired of sitting on the porch & not their tractors?

I noticed around my state (Oklahoma) that most gas stations have pumps for Ethanol Free gas. They seem to be the most used.
