You are very correct. My lips were addicted to Blistex. For years I applied it almost hourly, I had to. It took sometime and some ugly lips but I beat that addiction and now use natural lip ointments. Now that I no longer use Blistex I have less issues with chapped lips.

Bingo! and that is why I think this is such an important topic.

 

After SHTF .. the odds of lots of unarmed people congregating in a confined area allowing a shooter the opportunity will be greatly diminished. Unless the shooters are camp guards.

And the odds of any of us monkeys being there are infinitesimal compared to that.

SSRI's shootings may possibly happen but they will resolve themselves quickly after SHTF. It'll be "There is something just not right with johnny" and I'll bet he has a watcher until he's either better or not with us any longer.

Not something I'm going to worry about as johnny will be seen as a threat by everyone .. including the sheeple.

 

My advice is to try and find a like minded doctor who would write you the needed scripts allowing you to stockpile your needed meds. Believe me, they are out there. I'm not talking pain meds, most shy away from that for obvious reasons, although you may get lucky on those as well.

 

Hence the "shelf life long" (plus about 50% to be honest) stock. Once you are old and retired, the docs aren't quite as hesitant on the pain meds.

 

I have friend right now I've taken to the hospital with severe headaches and already has had a heart attack and several stents as well as being diabetic and numbers other problems .
How do you deal with severe pain without certain meds ?
Post SHTF alternatives will be all that is available ,if you have them and or know how to make/grow them .
Pain meds don't fix things they only delay the inevitable ,
never the less, you can't wait till the event occurs to start producing it ,this is something that needs to be stored in refrigeration if possible.
On the other side of the coin, where people are addicted to something they can live with out, I think this issue will pretty much take care of it's self in time .
With in a you this will have to be addressed ASAP so that addicts will not compromise storage. Those wiling to compromise the security of the group are ejected .

 

Now y'all have me thinking about pain pills, sleeping pills and antidepressants...I think I need to add marijuana seeds to the seed safe. Some high CBD, some high THC.

Seriously...I have had back and knee pain every day since 1969. I quit taking pain pills the first year and just learned to hang with it, then a few years ago, a DR convinced me I might as well take advantage of modern medicine and prescribed me hydrocodone (Vicodin, Norco). Then last year, the DEA recategorized hydro and suddenly there were numerous hoops through one must jump and I "just said no" and reestablished my friendly relationship with pain. Recently, I discovered "CBD oil", which is extracted from what in my youth we called "ditch weed" which is very low in THC so doesn't get one high, but is high in cannabinoids, which affect pain centers. It doesn't make the pain go away (but neither does hydro), but it lessens it to the point where one can ignore it if they try.

By the way...marijuana is legal in my state for both medicinal and "recreational" use...so one no longer needs to get a prescription and get on a list.

Folks, this is a very serious issue. Those addicted to drugs, especially opioids are very dangerous. There are people out there right now who have and will kill for their next swallow.

I had a family member (dead now) who was one who had very violent tendencies, was very well armed and a danger to society as a whole; glad this person is dead now, the family sleeps better at night for it. This person's drug addiction eventually killed him.

Should a societal collapse occur, an army of these types of people will descend upon us. They are no better than the zombies in many of the fictional shows on TV (which could be considered as a metaphor for reality). Many of them don't care what they pop (meth, Oxy, etc.), they will torture, rape, beat, and murder to get their fix. They care only for themselves and YOU need to remember that if YOU have to put your sights on them. They will torture your little children to get you to tell them where the goods are, regardless if the 'goods' even exist; in their minds YOU are hiding their next fix from them.

To compound this issue, picture the number of prisoners who will no longer be guarded in the prison system. The guards will have to decide whether to shoot them all or turn them lose. The decision will most likely vary from place to place. Are you mentally ready for something like this to occur?

 

Life is tough. My daughter is a heroin addict and presently, is in prison but with a work release. I can't imagine that as soon as she is free and something happens to pee on her birthday cake, it's back to the needle. You know the line in Neil Young's Needle and the Damage Done about Milking blood to keep from running out? They sometimes draw their own blood after a fix to get another bump when they start to crash. I can't imagine she'll live long once the source dries up, nothing else, the hepatitis will kill her liver.I tried to help her but I no longer do. I know how an addict will lie and steal to keep a high. My step sister in law is a heroin addict and has been since she was 12 years old. You can't imagine the money and heart-ache thrown after her. My inlaws have not learned that there is no cure for another person's bad choices and continue to spend their assets trying to get her cured. They all lie and steal while things are as good as they are going to get; my advice? Shoot them, it will save you grief in the long run.

 

Here here. That is the sad truth of addiction there. Personally, I'd take them around pack, and put them out of their misery in a lot of cases. You can NEVER trust them.

Everyone loves to forget that drugs screw with brain chemistry...which means that it fundamentally changes the way you think. Given that the every time you "cross a line", your brain REWIRES itself to make that decision easier the next time...you see where this is going.

 

I've run across a lot of addicts in my life...the 2 groups I have learned are 99.99% lost causes are junkies and alcoholics. For anyone else there is a shadow of a chance.

Regardless of what (if anything) may be in their blood system, I will do my best to make sure they bleed all over themselves if they come after me and mine.

 

As have I Pax. I've known several functioning alcoholics over the years. One I remember was a side boom operator that kept a bottle of Jack in his Cat, right off to the right side of the seat. Always scared me to know he was moving pipe while drinking. And by drinking I mean starting at 06:00 and throughout the day-until the day he ran out. After that, hell, I would BUY him a bottle if he didn't have one and was supposed to be moving pipe anywhere near me. I know how that must sound, but he was a great operator if he could "nip" during the day. Without it he was a danger to everyone. It is what it is. Nice guy, great on the stick, but could not perform with out being half in the bag. Nowadays that would not be tolerated I know but that was back when the oil field was a bit faster n looser.

That being said, I've never been around a guy that could function properly on drugs period. They all THINK they can, but I've yet to see one. The functioning alkys always seem to be able to show up and do the job, the coke and meth heads end up dead or in jail losing everything. Just my observations not a judgement.

 

Alcoholics (like coke addicts) are usually fine as long as they can function well enough to keep their supply available...but will do absolutely anything in order to obtain something if they are out. My father was a high functioning alcoholic and was fine...as long as you remembered not to count on what he said he would do, because he would probably get distracted by his habit...fortunately he was first a skilled mechanic and later a car dealer, so his supply was never a question. My brother, on the other hand would lie, cheat and steal from anyone (including little brother) to get his.

I guess I could (should?) mention that I was a cocaine addict myself in my college years, but treated myself to an inpatient program as a graduation present and never used it again (though I admit that 40 years later I can still smell and taste it when I think about it). One of my college housemates was a dealer/smuggler so I had the means to get as much as I wanted.

 

I'm not a doctor, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but both my wife and I get Migraines and I have had a stint.

Over the years, because of a very active youth and a couple of serious oil field accidents I have broken or fractured just about every major bone in my body with the exception of my hips and spine. 14 knee operations, collapsed lungs, bulging discs,ect. I know about pain. It doesn't go away for me-ever. And hasn't for many years. I used to get Vicodin, Percs, you name it by the bottle full. Did they help? Sure, but now because of the fracked up laws in Alabama, everybody is a junkie until proven otherwise... Good thing about the past is that I seldom used up my script before it was time to refill, thus allowing me to "prep" Used Moonshine and Rum too, but that didn't work unless I got to a point that I didn't like being in..

Mary has helped since, and without certain drawbacks. Laws and social opinion be damned I'll use and continue to use and cache what works for me-YMMV

It's not just Alabama, the DEA has apparently decided that prescribing pain medication is something that family practitioners (you know, the ones that might actually know the "whole patient") should not do except for very short durations. As a result prescriptions for chronic pain are cause to have the alphabet soup guys setting up camp in a family practitioner's colon.

I am sure Alabama is happy to jump in with shared enforcement though...

 

On the subject of pain medication and opioids I have had to see spine surgeries surgeries on both of my knees and my right shoulder and lost the left kidney. I haven't taken a pain pill since moving to South Carolina as I cannot get a family doctor specialist or pain management center to see me. I am in pain constantly the doctors have proof that I am messed up but don't care because of the DEA and drugies causing such a problem.I use cannabinoid oil and RSO and I keep a stock of seeds in my prep just in case SHTF
