Me too! I met Desmond Doss years ago, and he was wearing the same uniform he had worn home from the war, and it was probably around 25 years after he had been discharged. He wore the CMH around his neck along with all the salad on his chest and other medals. He wasn't a big guy, about light medium in build, but way long on courage. The official record says he saved 75 men off Hacksaw Ridge, but guys in his unit have said it was closer to 125.
yes indeed a story about our greatest generation. The film is based on the true story about US Army medic Desmond T. Doss, a Seventh-day Adventist conscientious objector who refused to bear arms, yet was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Harry S. Truman for single-handedly saving the lives of over 75 of his comrades while under constant enemy fire during the Battle of Okinawa in World War II.
I had not heard about this until now . I will definetly be waiting to see this . Thanks for bringing it to my , and any others who haven't heard about it , attention .
I had heard of this hero during Medic Training, but we honestly had no idea what he went through or who he was! Can't wait to see this when it comes out! I for one am extremely grateful that these stories of American heroes are finally being told, so that future generations of Americans know where we come from, and what it takes to Be American!
Gotta see this one! I didn't hear about it until now so BIG THANKS! Glad to see Mel Gibson is finally putting all the crap behind him and getting back to work. I think he's a real genius with film! He is directing it but I will be interested to see who is producing for him. I doubt Hollywood will give him any recognition no matter how good it is but that's okay. Who cares what they think... A young guy named Andrew Garfield is playing Desmond T. Doss which I hope he can pull it off... Looks like this is suppose to be out this year. I assume we haven't heard about it because of Mel Gibson's meltdown with his ex which has ostracized him with most of big Hollywood except those big names that don't care what Hollywood thinks or does (Jodie Foster, Sly Stallone...). Anyway, looking forward to it! Hacksaw Ridge (2016) - IMDb
