Because we all tell every Tom, Dick and Pollster about all the guns we own....or owned before that unfortunate biblical flood/hurricane/tornado, right?

Waiting to see the "super-owner" t-shirts start popping up.

I read a very liberal article saying that there were about a half billion guns in the U.S.
So if the 3% "super owners" own 130 million that is only about 1/4 of all the guns. That still leaves a few hundred million guns for everyone else.

I don't think the number of actual gun ownership has "dipped". I think the number of gun owners stupid enough to admit they own a gun or guns to some anonymous stranger taking a poll has "dipped".

And you know that "new survey" couldn't have possibly included the people of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, New York, Illinois, or California. Because, every single person they asked answered faithfully. [LMAO]

I lost all my guns in an unmarked mine accident! LOL Seriously, the number of "Owned" guns is way off, there are actually closer to just over 400 million by most true estimates, and that my friends is telling.

    From the article.

We then took the estimate of 88.8 guns per 100 people for the U.S.—which, seven years later, is likely higher—and used it to calculate each state’s estimated gun ownership, based on state populations from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2010 survey. (Of course, gun-ownership density varies throughout the country, but this number gave us a easy way to come up with comparable figures for all 50 states, since actual state-to-state numbers were not available.)

Once we had the list of state numbers, we compared each one to Small Arms Survey’s list of countries and respective gun-ownership estimates, logging the nearest match.

So this comes in between a WAG and a SWAG......

All those guns and since they are so dangerous to own why don't we have more mass shoptigs?
    [sarc2]

They are too stupid to understand how they are shooting themselves in the foot with these ridiculous stats

Wow, I just counted up the firearms in our Cabin, and it turns out, if we split them 50/50 between AlaskaChick and Myself, we are BOTH, Super-Owners.... I never figured to be Super-Anything, in my life... Oh well, I wonder if those Yahoos that did the Study ever actually went out into The REAL Country, and validated their conclusions..... Naw, that would be to much work....

You guys own guns???!!!!???!?! Well. I used to until I saw the Democratic light. So 12 miles out I went into the sea and threw them all overboard. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I'm afraid I'll have to verify your story, son. Got coordinates where you dropped them all?

Oh,do you also happen to have a spare set of scuba gear?

I also think the anti gun nuts are going to try to instill fear and maybe outrage by putting this out there. Maybe they hope some grass roots movement will pop up to try and limit people from owning more than x number of guns. Because x is just too many.
x is an unknown number but may have a single digit value, may even not be a whole number.

My grandson got a 3 day suspension for having the 12 shot semi-auto rubber-band gun that I gave him in his backpack.

I was so proud of him that I drove down and took him camping and shooting for those three days. ;)
