I decided to start this for a place to catch all the news as it is up-dated plus for our Survival Monkey members in the Florida, the Carolina's and throughout the East coast. Please check in when you get a chance. May you and yours be safe.

I did read that it is shifting a bit west which is bad news.

Looks like an evil storm to me.

 

It worries when hurricanes are given gospel writer's names....I keep wondering when Mark, Luke and John are also going to hit!

grew up i pensacola fl. and have seen lots of hurricanes and and they don't scare me but a tornado scares the crap out of me you never know which way they will go ---but stay safe florida

 

Watching the news this morning they said some of the islands will see a 15 foot storm surge. I wonder where the people go. 15 feet is a lot of water and it is strong.

 

My daughter lives in Cocoa, Fl. I called her yesterday and asked her about her preps and if she needed anything. She began her reply with "this ain't my first rodeo, ya know"...words she had heard from me many times. She's daddy's girl fer shure and I know she'll be OK.

 

I've taken down the stove pipe and capped the stove and fireplace. Lowered the martin house and brought in the wind chimes.
My storm prep is done. Usually that's enough to make sure we get almost nothing in the way of wind. If it comes across the NC coast this weekend I'll be at work anyway.

 

Picking up a generator this evening, and my provisions will be complete.........holding in place and waiting to see what happens here in coastal NC

I have a question about this. If the Governor says mandatory evac and your boss says I expect you here at 8 a.m., what do you do? Can they legally fire you for complying with a mandatory evacuation?

Mandatory evacuation orders around here in NC are usually only for the barrier islands. There are always folks who stay in their homes.
I wonder what would be more stressful, being there to watch your home get flooded and storm damaged, or be in that big line of traffic two days later, waiting to get back across the bridge to see what's left?

They tried that mandatory thing during Sandy then gave up and just said if you are staying please write your social security number on your body with sharpie so they could identify you.
