Cyber Warfare

Joe Biden just announced to the world on NBC the intention of the US to wage clandestine cyber war against Russia. The Russians have responded today, 10/15/16, that they would prepare for such an attack. How is this clandestine when Biden made a public announcement? Just more saber rattling, or has Joe slipped again?

Cyber war is about attacking infrastructure such as communications, banking, transportation, and electrical grid, much more than just hacking into emails and facebook pages.

If this were to transpire, and since most currency actually exists in digital form, would it be prudent to be holding cash in such a situation?

How much cash can you cram into a tinfoil hat?

It would be prudent to have enough cash to see you through to the likely end of a conflict, but the choice of currency is the key. I'd be partial to Swiss Francs, in small denominations.

    Oh they're well prepared already.

Moscow's government ditches Microsoft for Russian software

My black hat is very old and far out of date....but I have the highest of respect for Russian code poets, packeteers and script kiddies.

Does anyone know WHY there is no Russian Anonymous?

    :)

    Think aboot it.

Oh, I dunno @Mindgrinder, could it be that they either work hacking for the government or have been executed? Or was that question satirical?

If he announced it, it isn't very clandestine, is it.... Biden is a clown.

,gov and the ones who aren't recruited are smart enough to maintain OPSEC.
    Russians don't brag like 'muricans.

Russia is far ahead on cyber attacks since it is just another tool and they are good at it.
If I used windoze I would also dump made in Russian Kaspersky Lab security software.

Russia knows where the vulnerability's are have moved back to hard copy.

The Kremlin is returning to typewriters in an attempt to avoid damaging leaks from computer hardware, it has been claimed.

Our elected democrats are complete idiots. That's all there is to it.
If this doesn't remove all doubt then you are just as diluted and ignorant as your so called leaders.

This sums up Joe, they may have drilled a bit too deep when Joe got/gets hair plugs.

Well, I saw the last debate and they are telling them in advance so noncombatants can shut down their computers before the attack Mr. Smartypants...

Also, the "C" at the top of his brief means "Communicate Immediately to Press, no malarkey!".

The US is in a FAR greater potential for crippling infrastructure damage. Years ago I did a cyber security assessment for the control center for the entire SE US power grid. Yes, each region of the US power grid has a central location than can control everything. That, in and of itself is a significant vulnerability. Everything we do is computer controlled, not just power. Think railroad control, draw bridges, pipelines, cryogenic gas storage facilities, you name it.

This is WAY, WAY beyond glass houses and bricks and we should NOT incitee them to act first, because they will and will be effective.

At least nobody will be paying attention to Clinton scandals...

And that just may be the goal... start a shooting war.

Cyber warfare is the battlefield plan, should we attack a modern country. As always, attacks on command and control are the most devasting, but now it'll be done by millenials at keyboards rather than by Patton with tanks.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Of course, no one is mentioning the fact that if we (America) attack them (Russia--or anyone else) with computers (or anything else) we will have committed a formal act of war, and that they (Anybody, and all their friends) will be entirely within their rights in responding with any and every effective weapon.

And no one is mentioning that China has already attacked our infrastructure several times via computer, nor that we have responded similarly.

So WWIII is actually already in progress, and has been for some time. History will record that hostilities had commenced X-many days, weeks, month, or years before the first widespread use of nuclear weapons against civilian targets.

That's if History, itself, isn't one of the casualties of that war.

Kinda like poking the Bear with a limp wrist... Maybe they will send John Kerry over there to give them a good talking too.
