Different groups create the standards they require,
Say some one trains as a paramedic , there exists patches to that skill already, so with that in mind, that level of skill receives a patch to the degree of their training in that area.

I have basic first aid and CPR , my patch would only reflect that information.
If I choose to advance that training and can prove it, then a more advanced patch is required.

What benefit is it in a group like this ?
In a post apocalyptic event, should any of us meet, there would be an immediate recognition of a kindred spirit and their skills .
Even if ones patch only reflected the skills of duct tape and bailing wire, it still is the reflection of recognition others have invested.
If however said person can't find here way out of a paper box,(so to speak) it might be accurate to assume that they lie about their skill. and not much they say is of any value .
So even strangers might have a means of recognizing gold from iron pyrite .

Free hostage sorting. An aggressor knows who has value and who should be kept and who should die at a glance.
I think I'd like to keep my cards a little closer to my vest.
Perhaps a private roster in a group skills credits training, but I don't think I want to broadcast who is a high-dollar Target and who is not.

Great point. Especially since lenses can be made from glass, quartz, ice, etc using only primitive tools. No different than making a bowdrill using only rocks and cordage you crafted yourself.

In truth as ghrit sees it, there is no such thing. Best bet is a knowledgeable coach, see it do it routine. Tag, you're it. Come along the teen years they'll have enough interest to ask and find out for themselves if the coach keeps it going.

We picked up a Bushcraft book for the shop that I like. Very much in the Army manuals, but not a lot of fluff, a lot of ground covered, and an insane amount of pics, IMO.
