I learned today that there is nothing other then relatively small fines preventing the electoral college from electing hildabeast on Dec 19. I also ran across an on line petition with 500k+ signatures begging the electoral college to do just that, elect killary.

My question is what happens if they elect her? I did some research and it has never happened before, a stray vote here and there, but never enough to turn the outcome of the election. I know this is a long shot theory, but these are strange times we live in. I have learned to expect the unexpected, especially these days.

There is no legal barrier that I know of or can imagine for the electors to vote however they want. However, there sure are moral and ethical questions. I'd guess that Guido would get a contract, but can't even guess who would pay it. And bitcherly would be in the office anyway.

I believe it would most likely be the first shot of a civil war...which doesn't mean it won't happen.

Let's see... There were 60 million who voted for Hillary... Add those in the electoral college and that is only another 40 or so...

I have been reading other articles and comments from people pushing this and saw that the signatures have gone over 2 million so far. I have also seen articles and comments calling for organization to keep the "demonstrations in the streets throughout the country until the electors vote".

A few months ago, apparently 2 Republican Electors, one in Texas and one in Georgia, made news when they stated that they would not vote for Trump if he won their state. Those are both states that Trump won. they only need to convince probably 25 electors to join the ranks of "faithless electors" to reach their goal. This is not "tin hat" material as much as it is a serious threat (and conspiracy, but I am doubting Lynch's DoJ will pursue that) to subvert the election results, hanging their hat on the fact that Hillary is 200K votes ahead in the popular vote at this time.

There have been "faithless electors" in the past, they have just never affected the outcome of the election. Google "faithless electors" and do a bit of exploring. Especially read the comments...these people don't even understand how dangerous the avenue they are taking is.

Well it may be out dated, the electoral college was created as part of the grand compromise, and what has been happening is just what it was designed to do. The states with small populations knew that a true democracy would in the long run destroy them and refused to join the union without some protections built into the system and the creation of a republic with protections for the minority groups. The senate, with each state having equal weight, the electoral college selecting the president, so no 3 or 4 states with large populations could pick the president. the 2 nd so if all else failed, we could try again. Our greatest threat as a nation has always been the majority destroying the rights of the minority. Our leaders, with their laws, and our court system, "interpreting" the constitution, are in the process of limiting the protections of our rights, God given, or otherwise derived. I can talk for a belief, be it woman's rights, gay rights, racial equality, abortion, muslem religion, etc, and it is covered as a "free" speech right covered by law and I have to support that cause and indeed believe it and teach my children that it is true. If I believe anything else, and so state or attempt to teach my children anything else, I am guilty of a "hate" crime, a raciest, a bigot, hate women, out of date, etc. While our treatment of some groups in the past has been deplorable and can not be defended, I don't think that "payback" time by a coalition of those groups on the former "white Christian male" is really justified, but then as an older white Christian male educated using McGuffey readers and reading Shakespeare in the 5 th grade, etc, I may not be justified in their eyes in having my viewpoints in their modern society. .

What impact does a candidate’s concession speech have on the Electoral College process?

None. A candidate’s concession speech does not impact the states’ duties and responsibilities related to the Electoral College system.

I put this in the tinfoil section because it has never happened in the history of the country.

I do agree that this election more then any other the threat of it happening has become to serious to ignore. I also believe that it would do severe, possibly irreparable, damage to the union.

I don't think the storm will be over till 01-20-17, if it is over then.

They are only 350k apart in n popular vote. Do you think those two states will make that much difference?

I agree they won't elect her.

And if we did do away with the electoral college HRC would be president. She currently leads in popular vote.

While my sense of freedom rebels against an electoral vollege, it did get Trump elected.
