I realize that all of us have various medical bags and supplies but I wondered what 5 OTC meds you would recommend to some one prepping a BOL...

    Aspirin
    Tylenol
    Peroxide
    Epsom Salts
    rubbing alcohol...

    Imodium
Ibuprofen (aspirin and acetaminophen do nothing for me)
    Benadryl
    Triple antibiotic

Those are the four I keep on hand for myself. I don't consider rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or Epsom salts an otc med but do keep those on hand. Would also keep baking soda as well.

I could make a case for pink bismuth of some kind and/or tums.

I could also make a case for Sudafed, a cough supressant or see the utility of some other type of NSAID or pain killer.

I know it isn't what you asked but rather than limiting myself to 5 things, I would rather have a potentially larger array with a few less of each (by a few, I mean 500-800 instead of 1000, for example).

Go to Costco, SAM'S or Walmart and buy that stuff in bulk. Save a lot over the long term.

You can stock it all for $5 at Dollar Tree.

    Ibuprofen
    Peroxide
    rubbing alcohol.
    Triple antibiotic
Bulk Dr. Sheffield's Triple Antibiotic Ointment, 0.33-oz. Tubes at DollarTree.com

My wife swears this stuff is just as good as Sudafed
Bulk Assured Nasal Decongestant Tablets, 24 ct. at DollarTree.com

Also years back I had a filling fall out, major pain but putting an aspirin right on it helped a lot tasted bitter but the pain was reduced until I could get to the doc so we stock good old aspirin.

Word of caution on Dollar Tree most of the health care products are USA made but they have been sneaking in chinese stuff, no chinese food or health care products for us...

Agreed on the store brands for most stuff. Our Sudafed is the target generic, as is the triple antibiotic and the imodium. 99% are identical and have been for years.

Was just talking to the wife though and she mentioned polysporin as opposed to neosporin. The doctor recommended it for a pretty screwed up knee scrape. I think there may be a generic but I'm not sure.

Hydrocortisone is good to have on hand aside well.

For pain I have seen debates on the best OTC and some choose a mix of Aspirin and one of the others.
The nice thing is that they are cheap and available and we can use whichever works best for us.

Before Ibuprofen was OTC I had a prescription and each was 800mg twice a day the OTC version is 200mg.

Aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil), and naproxen (Aleve)

Ibuprofen is the #1. I am having trouble naming just 5. Polysporin is better then neosporin IMO, I think that polysporin kills infection better. Hydrogen peroxide is a definite OTC drug to have. I am stuck on Benedryl vs. sudafed. Actually I would have to have both. One kid responds to benedryl and the other sudafed. I have always had to keep both on hand.

I believe that prescription Motrin was the same as 4 ibuprofen, and I've been told by doctors to take 4 of em.

Don't have a fifth, unless you count the granola bars I keep in my 'purse' for my blood sugar, or the cloves for any tooth issues.

bismuth subsalicylate rather than Imodium - more uses, less side effects
a topical disinfectant - ikely Povidone iodine. I wish we could still buy merbromin (trade name Mercurochrome)
    B
ENADRYL® or Histaprin second choice here would be rehydration salts if the party has no known allergies.

I deliberately left that off the list as it's not technically OTC for human consumption, but yeah, there's $100-400 worth of stockpile that needs to be accounted for.

I wasn't sure how far the scope of OTC was going to go.
Yeah it's definitely not for human consumption.
I do know some one that always had to take a shot of horse penicillin after they would come home to their wife after going to a biker rally. His wife insisted.
