We are not nor will we ever be a political forum....We will forever respect the mandate of this forum to be the Guardian of survival principles !!!!

Sorry YD...you know I consider you one of the good guys, but I have to say that the past couple of years has given me cause to doubt the efficacy of that guardianship.

And I would say that we are emerging from a highly politicized period...patience is called for sir.

I amongst many here are die hard supporters of the recent election...I suspect that there are many that hold their tongue, hoping to not be necessarily targeted.

I have to admit that I brought a lot of negative political opinion to the site when I joined! That was the result of feeling that our own government is out to get us, disarm us, sheepilize us. With Mr Trumps win I am cooling off and taking a wait and see attitude, while I'm slowly rebuilding my survival gear and systems! I've been doing this stuff so long that some items are worn out, so I, at least, am delving deeper into the actual preparedness threads!
I am perfectly happy to be here, the folks are nice and even the political stuff has been pretty much non-confrontational! Other sites have it much worse, believe me! I'm going to dig in and practice good citizenship while I'm on SM!

Ha...that was how I was originally going to respond. ;)

I am a misanthrope - I dislike humankind in general. That does not mean that I hate humans, it means that through my experience I have learned that we can be a pretty sad lot as a species. I want to know when and why that became some kind of crime.

Not a crime chimo. I just prefer not to have my available time consumed by negativity and hate. I'm not a particularly social person. I pretty much keep people at arm's reach so I try to make the time I do spend socially engaged, such as on SM, leave me with a positive feeling about my fellow man/woman.

I don't think we are talking about the same things here. Misanthropy is a general dislike of the human race...no hatred required and definitely not hatred towards specific people. Just because I generally dislike and distrust the human race, have I ever spread any hatred or negativity towards you? Indeed, one of the things I tend to dislike about humans in general is this propensity to paint everyone else with an overly broad brush and considering any views or opinions that are not their own as hateful or negative.

Since I am an admitted Misanthrope, I could easily be offended by your assumption that my personal mental issues are a sign of hatred or negativity and consider them hateful and negative myself. Why are my personal mental issues any more or less important or valid than anyone else's, including your own? Why are mine hateful and negative, while yours are somehow loving and uplifting?

Just as I see your point and respect it, I hope you can see past the point on my head to see the point I am making and respect it as well. I yam what I yam...warts and all.

I certainly didn't mean to paint you with any brush at all. My response was merely what brings light into my life. I admit that I have only read some of your posts but from those, I have never found you hateful. As far a negativity goes, what is negative to me may simply be truth to you.

i was born in 1938, lived on a farm in the 1940's that was heated with wood, cut with a cross cut saw, had no electricity, nor running water, farmed with horses, mom canned, dad butchered, we grew our own seeds, cut our own hair, etc. I know it can be done, been there done it. Had tularemia as a kid and most likely would have died without penicillin, had rheumatic fever, ended up with a heart murmurer, treated now with antibiotics and not usually allowed to develop, wife has had multiple heart bypass surgery and cancer, both now ok, so I appreciate modern medicine and the modern world. When I was 6 years old, I spent most of my time with my grandfather and his friends. He was born in 1873, homesteaded land in North Dakota, was half Lakota, and half the people who visited and I listened to were full Lakota and had experienced a life on the reservation for 60 years. the Lakota had a self sufficient society that had survived for generations, but in Minnesota, once the settlers began to arrive, it collapsed in a little over 20 years and they were removed. It did not sound like we were told in school. While I prepare for the worst and hope for the best, my main problem in surviving SHTF is my friends, neighbors, and the government. If I prepare and spend resources on survival things, while they buy snowmobiles, go to Disney World, buy new cars etc, they will want and will take my preps if they need them and will pass the laws to do so or use the existing ones and re purpose them. If they don't take them, how can I in comfort let my neighbors and their children die, or the members of my family who mock my wasting money on preps?

In my mind, watching and trying to stop the changes in society that are destroying us are part of my preps. Don't know if I can do anything to slow things down, just as I don't know how well my 20 year old buckets of wheat will still be good in another 5 years. Sorry if I preach or use negative comments, but it is a very sore spot for me and while it doesn't dominate my thoughts, it sure bums the heck out of me.

While not politically correct, May God bless and keep you all this Christmas season and may you and yours all have a good year.

What a great biography you have shared with us. I think there is a vast difference between negativity and using historical data to prepare for the future and whatever it holds.

My biography is almost nothing, my great grandfather came from Germany with the clothes on his back, fought in the Civil war, married a Lakota, built a farm from nothing, helped build a church, and a town, raised a good God fearing family and died in his own bed. Most of his neighbors had done nearly the same thing. That is what we are losing and with the loss of men like Mr. Dillon we are losing yet another piece of our greatness.

and I am not trying to tell you to accept darkness in your life...I more trying to point out that what you may perceive as darkness, hate or negativity may not be. Think of it as, when you get a lemon, don't think sour, think lemonade! ;)
