Well dang me, Bruce if you ain't right! I consulted the authoritative source of all things godly, (Landover Baptist Church) and discovered that you are 100% correct.

    Santa Claus is Satan!

Now, to reasonable people that might be considered a black mark against Santa, but goldarn it, Satan needs at least one friend...god on the other hand has all those faithful worshippers rootin' for him; somehow it just don't seem fair.

Herr Proffesor Doctor L. Kay Gillespie does a Three Hour Monologue on Satan Claus, every December 15th in his Criminology Program... First heard it 40 years ago...

Who knew that there was a cabal of liberal and conservative academics in league with each other, actively pushing their Santa Clause denialist agenda!

Alex Constantine's Blacklist: Utah: A Weber State U. Intellectual's Lonely War Against Santa Claus

Idiot doc blasted for claiming Santa doesn't exist

Apparently, Mr Professor Kay Gillespie's most significant evidence is that Santa is an anagram of Satan, I mean to say, if identifying suspects is established by decoding the anagram of their alias.....I wonder how a top shot criminologist would rumble Lucifer in red and white Summer Solstice togs....perhaps Chris Crifuel might just have to suffice.

I understand Gillespie's concerns about parents and other adults keeping the "Claimed" myth of Santa Claus alive for each succeeding generation, in the same way that I am concerned about adults perpetuating their religious mythologies for their progeny. The difference in the two different kinds of mythology believers is that most Santa believers come to the realization that Santa is a mythical entity by the time they pass into puberty (some even come to that realization well before that), whereas many theistic myth believers don't make that kind of transition even upon reaching adulthood .

As far as I am concerned, Santa Claus serves the useful social function of inoculating some folk into not just accepting blithely other mythical entities without some critical evaluation, and skepticism.

Wait. I just found out a Ouija board is similar to dowsing. It's the Ideomotor effect. So it's not of the Devil afterall. It's just plastic and cardboard. [afro]

I take this wonderful example of theistic tolerance as a not very complimentary personal attack on me , which is contrary to the COC, and the general season of friendly good cheer.

Actually, if this thread were to be moved, I think the Faith and Religion Forum would be the most appropriate fit....given that Santa and Jesus (and Satan, when it comes to it) are each, objects of faith and religious veneration.

You could have just said that at the outset, MG instead of slagging slagging meaning - Google Searcha fellow monkey with the kind of voodoo ritual that is little different, in essence, to consuming the tissue and fluids of one's preferred deity.

I thought that fighting political correctness was all about not deferring to uber sensitive folk, whose feelings might get bent out of shape if a contrary point of view was put forth bluntly. By comparing JC to Santa, am I being politically incorrect?

Oh....I wish I had your faith, MG......However, political correctness won't ever get repealed....it will just tilt a little more towards right wing political correctness (RWPC),Conservative correctness - RationalWiki and away from left wing political correctness (LWPC), as far as the Strumpet administration is concerned: The rest of society will probably remain unchanged....that is unless Drumpf starts sooling the thought police upon the general population for committing LWPC thought crimes.

In Opinion: The curse of conservative political correctness

The right has its own version of political correctness. It’s just as stifling.

No worries MG.....sometimes I have to allow myself the time and space to simmer and cool off before replying to some posts here. It gives me the luxury of thinking more critically and being less emotionally invested in striking back (at the person posting rather than responding to their arguments); as tempting as the immediate impulse to do so may be.

For me, it's not so much about proving the other person right or wrong, but examining the merits of their argument. That way, we all learn and benefit, if only that we are encouraged to evaluate the assumptions upon which our own respective world views are founded.

Edit: This thread is also an exemplar of how two monkeys with quite differing world views, have dealt with a disagreement, and have come through it with reasonable amity and good will towards one another. If the thread were buried in the inferno...outsiders would not be able to witness that process, and realise that the health of the relationships with one another here, is more important than being right or wrong on any one particular issue.

And it warms my heart. @Mindgrinder & @chelloveck [grouphug]

Now off subject, sort of. My thoughts on Santa vs. Jesus Christ: I do believe in the spirit of the season. It is a holy season and the whole Santa thing has become materialistic and has killed the true spirit of the season because people go into debt "keeping up with the Jones" buying gifts because society seems to think Christmas is a time to buy a bunch of stuff that no one really needs. I think if you give a gift from the heart, one that doesn't have a price tag, that is the true spirit.

Not meaning to offend anyone but...think I will stick to playing Monopoly. I am of Irish decent and we have a saying 'never discuss politics or religion when your drinking" and we drink during the holidays so...so I am sure this game would led to problems. LOL!

I did send my buddy, an atheist, a text asking if atheists have Christmas since it would seem that to celebrate it would also be recognizing everything that goes with it, sort of a poke in his eye. He answered me that 'Yes, it takes back the pagan solstice from Jesus.' Whatever. So, I guess Christmas has evolved into something for everyone. My wife and nieces are Russian Orthodox Christians so their Christmas is 7 January (old calendar) but if I were to try and deny them the 25th - well - there would be war on more fronts than I could possibly counter. So, to me, it seems Christmas has evolved, for better or worse, and it now is something for everyone even those that have no faith whatsoever. Now, I shall return to my liberally dosed eggnog...
