How are fellow monkeys in southern Oregon/northern California coping? I had to clear a walking path in our driveway twice yesterday, and combining the two times, that's 350ft+ of shoveling. It snowed alot more overnight, neighbor said news said storm like this hasn't been around since 1917, not quite sure if I believe that. In Mt. Shasta in the early 90s, we got 8-12ft overnight once. Mom got toilet paper, cat litter, and dog food yesterday, as well as most of the bills paid, before it got TOO bad. Not gonna snow again til Saturday apparently, so we have some time to dig out and get our monthly grocery shopping done. Right now I gotta go check on the chickens' food/water. They're inside today. And gotta bring in more firewood. At least this is nothing compared to other winter storms I've lived through. A foot or two overnight is a regular snowstorm to me. But then I was younger and could shovel more without arm/shoulder/back pain...
Up to your North in WA, it was 19 this morning and we have had everything from rain/freezing rain to snow in the last week...
My brain has finally realized that 1917 was 100years ago, that means this would the Storm of the Century....$%^@ that! I saw the Stephen King movie!
Well...I am in the Rogue Valley and this snowfall where I am was outdone in at least 2012 and 1997 and I believe in 2002. A friend over on the eastern side of the mountains got a lot more (though I have no idea how much they got those other years) , so I am pretty sure it depends on the part of S. Oregon.
Yeah, currently 5F here also and we got a ton of snow over the pass couple weeks, too much. I like a white Christmas but Christmas is over and I wish this white stuff was also!
Were -Freeze here & expecting a dump , Im set on the walkways (salted) ride is on 4 studless ice tires & a set of chained up spare snows on rims ready to swap/bolt on, Honda track snow blower ready , but I have NOT installed the 6' Kubota tractor front snow blower !! That means I now seem to work for days to help others , while Im out fuel / time/ health / for them lazy folks & no shovel !! Sorry , but every 7-10 years ,I see this . Ya know if the weak DIE out , less we need to babysit over.. Were Prepared for a bad stint !!I just read OP that she went 4TP & grocery's 2morrow etc. Yur not a prepper !! Gurl !! Get with the weather ."""Mom got toilet paper, cat litter, and dog food yesterday, as well as most of the bills paid, before it got TOO bad. Supposed to be nasty here also. Rain/sleet and mid 30s (F). Seriously, all of you folks in the affected areas be careful - Murphy doesn't care if you prep or not!
It was 68 here today. Rather chilly I thought. We do have a 10% chance of rain tomorrow night, though. Whoops, the NWS just upped it to a 20% chance.
This global warming stuff is starting to get out of hand, don't ya think ? Good luck, I hope the weather doesn't affect you in negative ways .
I didn't run today because I was a little worried about slipping. I love hiking in the snow boots, but running in them annoys the snot out of me.
I miss living near V Hestin in the summer months, but not this time of year. But my place in Sprague River was sure pretty in the winter!
I've often wondered what you do with the ice you catch. Ice fishing has to be one of man's most sincere forms of self torture.
Yesterday the low was 27 degrees - they closed the schools even though there was no ice or snow.... Today 19, schools also closed. I figure if it snows we will have to use the old cold war fallout shelters in order to survive...
Where I am is at the moment is the last county on the inner edge of the winter weather advisory. I'm starting to think dragged my snowmobile 2,500 miles 3 years too late.
Was -11 when I woke up this morning. And I can't trust my mother to keep the fire going all night(her bed is by the woodstove), was 41 in the house when I woke up for good. I had restarted the fire twice overnight as well. It's in the 50s in the house now. Waiting til it gets above zero to go outside and do more shoveling. Not supposed to do anything again til Saturday at least. Am so NOT looking forward to the rain forecasted for Sunday, because it's going to make everything worse, and it's supposed to be snowing after that through next Friday at least. At least I'm getting exercise...
