YeeHaw......it's about time to end the senseless wasteful hiring to hire lunacy of the last 8 years.....
Except that is is preveting the air guard and af reserve from hiring replacement technicians if it lasts too long. (Federal employees that fix the guard and reserve planes during the week but are also reservists one weekend a month.) flying reserve and guard units need these technicians to survive. Don't hurt the military with this. All other departments freeze away!
Wouldn't make much sense to hire freeze the military since a big part of this administrations campaign agenda was to beef up the military.
No freeze on positions defined as necessary to National Security. I would assume this would cover the civilian techs, Air Traffic Controllers and Systems technicians, Border Patrol, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Treasury, and many other positions in government.
Agree. A federal hiring freeze is usually intended to apply to staff type positions, to mean non essential personnel in any of the branches.
I predict it won't effect the IRS either .. like where are they going to get the money? It's not like we want to give them our hard earned dollars.
But....But.....BUT!!! I'm getting older and they need to hire someone to clean my ears and cleanse my delicates! Knew I should have voted for the H creature!
Careful what you wish for. It might wind up being the Detroit fire department and flint water doing the cleansing.
Income taxes are virtually all electronic at this point anyway - the vast majority of staff lost due to attrition will be replaced by a computer scan. I'm sure we will all shed a tear for them
By the time they did all the paperwork and then assigned 50% of the staff to cook the metrics to prove they were doing their jobs after generating a ten year backlog in the first two months you would be in line waiting for your government casket made from recycled milk jugs before they got to you. Rest assured a bureaucrat would eventually dig you up to complete the procedure.
Hmmm.... I just put in today for an engineering job with the Navy. I wonder if they will be affected as its a development and testing facility.
Unless you are going to be commissioned, there's a good chance you MAY be affected. USN has a lot of civvy employees in various places (including shipyards) that are dependent on contracts. Fer zample, shipbuilder's yards are privately owned and manned almost entirely by civilian workers with Navy inspectors. No ships on the ways, no inspectors needed. Fingers crossed for you.
Likely not and if it is you might get the job as a contractor. The DoD is not exactly at the top of Trump's hit list.
So a good friend just got his bachelors in emergency management and an interview with FEMA yesterday. He drove 5 hours, stayed the night, went to the interview to be told they were no longer hiring. He is...well pissed.
I expect you will see some of this kind of push back from some sectors who do not fully understand the freeze. Tell your friend to apply to other agencies, unless he is dead set on a FEMA job. There are State Emergency Services offices that may be hiring and don't overlook the local Fire Departments.
