I am truly vexed

I don't post much political stuff but my mind keeps coming back to this general theme:

I guess I was naive thinking the left would move on from the election and lick their wounds and just plot an even greater socialist strategy. Instead they seem to have escalated things in most unreasonable and sometimes violent ways.
It's obscene. People protest and claim to defend free speech while depriving others of their right to speak.
The politicians are not the "Loyal Opposition", but whiners stomping their feet and having a "Tantrum of NO" and the country be damned.

I do my best to live and let live, but the left's escalating rhetoric, sabotage and violence have me concerned with a potential civil war.

Thanks for the ear and please join in the discussion. I could use some other thinking on this.

I'll leave you with this thought:

“Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”

I agree with both sentiments. I like to stay quiet because I generally have nothing more to add to the conversation, but I'm with you in that the wholesale advocacy of violence as a political answer from the left is terrifying. Playing intellectual checkers, the left tries one of these Berkeley style protests in a non-liberal area, say, a suburb of Oregon or Washington, or even Virginia. Some group of conservatives thinks it would be a kick to strike back at these faux "ninja" warriors. Instead of people walking away with a few bruises and a concussion or two, it is a near certainty that someone will be killed. People will demand a police state.

Heard a comment from a man from England on talk radio about the mainstream media in this country. He was talking about the protest in Calif at the college. There were about 200 or so protesters there, the US has a population of 300 + million, since when is one in a million and a half people a valid representative sample? Doesn't look promising for our long term future.

I'm with ya Gog, It boggles the mind that the left cannot let this go and allow things to follow the ebb and flow of a new administration and the changes that come! They would rather set it all on fire and watch it burn! How long must we endure and how long before the normal folks have had enough and strike back? Revolution may be the end result, and maybe it's a good thing! The way I see it, A Revolution could ( and I stress the "COULD" part) allow the rest of us to push back and restore much that has been taken by the left and the anties! Time will tell the tail! Revolution may also cause a major upset in the wrong derection too, so IT must be weighed and measured very carefully before it gets started! I for one do not like to think about this ever happening, but the Patriot in me almost demands it!!!

I am patient enough to allow the protesters to scream and cry and stomp their feet. However destruction of private property and attacking police and those they deem as Nazis is unacceptable. The police and the powers that be need to do their jobs and detain, arrest, and present for trial those who cannot protest peacefully. I for one will watch and wait. If things don't wind down, I believe that possibly the time may come where counter protests may become necessary, but I hope not. The authorities really do need to do their job and crack down hard on those who cross the line or all when it escalates into chaos and violence and destruction!! I will go where ever the spirit moves me. I will not be accosted physically by any man or woman or worse, a group of protesters. I will not push for a fight or even argue with these assholes, but I do demand right of free passage. One would be ill advised to accost me. YMMV

I'm such a peaceful guy, don't even hunt and believe in the 'ol live and let live. I have however about had enough of this protest and Democrat garbage. I'm almost to the point of getting out the baseball bat myself. We as a species only ultimately respect pain, be it from a spanking or a cracked skull, to keep us in line. It's time some of these idiots quit disrupting the natural workings of our country both in public and in the government either by choice or by a "spanking".
Trump is POTUS, get over it. Get off your ass and vote next election if you don't like it.

It would be silly to apply this quote to dealing with protesters of any ilk, let alone dealing with anybody at all, other than Ezra Pound. upload_2017-2-9_13-54-43. Ezra Pound - Wikipedia

In context, the referenced Mencken quote is a piece of literary criticism, making an acerbic comment on Ezra Pound; not a call to arms to go rogue and do a bit of throat cutting of dissidents whose ideology, or cause, one does not approve of, and whom offend one's sense of disgust.

The Menken quote in context is as follows:
    https://ia800304.us.archive.org/5/items/prejudicesfirsts00menc/prejudicesfirsts00menc.pdf (7.6mb free download) pages 90-91 refers.

I do not think I would call it the left because I am sure many of those protesting and screeching really are not devoted voters. IMO we are seeing a type of programed hysteria. These people are being told that things will be taken from them. They are being whipped in a frenzy and brainwashed by the media, professors etc. They have hopped on the bandwagon of resistance but fail to truly realize what they are protesting. I am very serious, this is a type of mass hysteria. It is a mental state not a political one.

If we stop for a sec and LOOK at the type of people rioting, we see the same thing over and over through out history! Those of week mind, able to be "told" things, able to be inflamed, those able to turn off morals, and those who have no thoughts for the fellow man! THIS is the enemy ( think old Nazi Brown Shirts from the 20's and 30's). Blame can be found in the Liberal Schools and Universities, as well as in the Churches and other places people like this meet ( like Starbucks) No amount of intelligence will work on these folks, Nothing but a baseball bat to the skull will open there minds! They will burn it all to ashes and then blame it all on a failed state, They cannot accept any blame because it is so far removed from there operating system, and they cannot be reasoned with, They follow the programming, and they follow their leaders!

@chelloveck the quote works just fine for me. I am not an educated man, more the school of hard knocks and a retired tradesman. You should know that I respect your intelligence and your exuberance. Sometimes I even agree with you.
However I'd prefer to keep my engagement in this thread to my original intent because it truly is problematic to me.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Always remember that most of these so-called "Leftists" are followers, not leaders. They're in it for the wine & cheese, the group hugs, the easy same-species sex, personal acclaim, inflated self-image, sense of belonging, money, and excitement.

(That's true for just about all groupies & hangers-on, including the arm-chair Conservatives. They're all playing dress-up at the life-style party.)

They're not in it for pain, danger, dirt, sweat, or tears.

They may say they are, but the first time they see the color of their bones it'll be "I have to go home now, my Mommy's calling me!"

So, look for the leaders. The rabble-rousers, the hard-core fanatics. It only takes one psychotic leader to create a whole lot of psychotic followers.

Identify the organizers of the protests. The 1% that are making things happen. Then deal with them.

Will there be a political revolution in this country? There's one going on right now that's been going on non-stop since WWI. It's the Communist Revolution, and it's here to stay. Read up on Bertrand Russell sometime.

Will there be another Civil War in this country. Specifically, a second War of Secession?

Unfortunately, I see it as almost inevitable--primarily because of the economic lunacy of our elected leaders. All empires collapse when the coinage is debased into worthlessness and the public debt becomes utterly unsupportable.

    Which is right about now.

And there in lies the Rub! How to stop the 1%? How to cut off the funding from the Bizillinares? How to make Politicians listen, and more importantly, How to make then act on the wishes of those they serve? I think we are well and truly past any answers to those questions, So now what the hell do we do?

Actually if you turn off the TV and do not surf the web, one would never really know that all the protesting is going on. Most of us do not have protests and disrupt in our area. The media and web makes it seem huge but most spots around the country are untouched. Just like the news cherry picks their stories on shooting, teachers molesting kids etc. One would think it is an epidemic but really most of the country and people are untouched.

Don't you dare go all group-think on us. If not for you, I might have to run out and find an actual liberal to debate...which would be a problem because most of them can't think critically like you do nor can they debate without resorting to the tactics of a spoiled brat. You keep right on playing the role you do...lord knows the libs need people like you if they ever want to have any credibility again.
