I see politics as a way to allow folks to blow off steam with out really causing issues... there is a diversity of opinions and information from various sites including alternative facts from both sides of the argument... There have been various "conservative" comments that I have found highly negative and without much merit poking the liberal and at the came time posts made to poke fun at the conservatives some tongue in cheek and some straight out offensive... I read what I want, comment where I see fit take any hits and roll on... It's life if we all agreed it would be a boring forum and life....

    YMMV

I tend to find nuggets in most posts. I too use the new posts feature and skip topics that are not of interest. To me, prepping means keeping up with political garbage as well, though most of it bores me to tears.

    Well... my [2c]...

IMHO anyone that thinks politics are of little or no importance or affect to or on peppers is making a very big mistake!

agree there are some post that border on the tin foil... BUT... time usually proves or disproves those...

so while some of us may look on some of this stuff and [lolol]

there does seem to be many things that got posted literally years ago on other sites that was called pure tin foil hat back then...

    and have proven... true...

so I got no problem with this subject... I have the ability to reason... I can observe, think, and decide...

still remember when so many declared there would NEVER be anything even close to an assault weapons ban...

but I am older then most here...

Don't see a problem here, particularly given all of the sub forums and things remaining for the most part in their respective areas. It is the individual choice to read it or not. I run a FB Group that deals with food and small farming, a lot of politics has came into that forum the last year and was causing a lot of butt hurt and drama. Myself, the Co-Founder and the four mods sat down and hammered out some basic rules. A FB Group is like a sub forum in many ways. What we concluded is you can't discuss farming at any scale or even gardening without considering politics same with food in general. So we decided to allow the discussion of politics as it directly relates to those subjects and police it pretty heavily. Pretty much what the mods and admins do here is the same thing over a broader set of topics and sub forums. Most people will play by the rules, most trolls will be eradicated fairly quickly and good discussions are had in context in the appropriate forums. As I often point out on the FB Group if someone annoys you that bad simply block them / Ignore them and you don't see what they post. I do believe this forum has a ignore feature :) When someone annoys a whole lot of people that is a different matter. All in all if I were to rate Survival Monkey on Content, Quality, Options, Moderation and Administration on a scale of 0-100 I would give a 97% Hey always room for improvement :)

Post what you like. I can either read or ignore as I see fit at the time.

Right now though, I'm over the political crap.

You're fine and not someone i consider politically over-active at all....thus making your opinion just a little bit more valuable when you actually state it.

OFC - i'm all for political posts...

Compared to many sights I have been on, and a few I am banned from, SM is pretty tame! When I say tame, I mean that the members here are smart and affable ( I do not know the correct spelling/ pronunciation of this word) pretty even handed, and the flaming is almost non existent. Even in a heated exchange, most refrain from insulting and ranting, and bashing others points of view! I LOVE it here, and I LOVE every one here, that makes this such a cool place to be!

Would like it better if the political items were posted in the shoutbox so you can read them or not and just let them go away when they get rolled off. Trump is in and Zero is out, just post political threads that make anything useful for your prepping needs.

I'm all for that. It would eliminate just about 99% of the political threads and commentary here at SM,, giving me more time to explore the possibilities of eco-sustainable interpretive dance. ;)

There is a reason firestorms are referenced when politics are discussed...you feed it and it grows. For me, this last election was all-consuming and exhausting. I'm just burnt out, and have no care now to listen to those talking heads who have no interest in anything but their own success and well-being.

I'm pretty sure there's not a politician out there that truly gives a shit about my family and whether they are cared for...or not. So, with that, it's time for me to shift my efforts back to where it's needed...my family. And truth be told, without the overload of negativity these days weighing me down, I've actually had the energy to get out to the garage and get some projects done...winter be damned!

There is a little bit of everything here, something for everyone. I've thoroughly enjoyed my stay here thus far, and look forward to the many posts to come. Some people concentrate their time and effort on certain topics...we're all different in this regard, which is completely acceptable. But if you happen across something that ruffles your feathers, just move along. Discussion is great, and greatly needed for the exchange of ideas to take place. But, I seriously doubt that getting heated and all worked up, while banging away on a keyboard, is going to change, or otherwise sway, a person's opinion on a given topic...especially when it pertains to politics and religion.

As for SM, I don't believe any changes are needed. Some folks may be better off growing some thicker skin, or just avoid certain topics all together. Personally, I believe it's all good as-is.

    Carry on monkeys!

Chell ! Dude ! Please ! You of the feather boa and cod piece crafted from the shell of an endangered species (you still owe us pics of that) doing an interpretive dance ? I'd rather read a hundred of your post to our political threads than subject my minds eye to that.

I've never really had issue with political ramblings, and I tend to gravitate away from the field because I've already said everything that has needed to be said, with exception only to linking previous threads on the subject and tag appropriately, if necessary. I do wish we can continue to post more on survival, bushcraft, gear reviews, etc.

Most members have been quite civil and respectful, even with this tumultuous "election". Look forward to seeing more in the future, because it's not going to change until it reaches the tipping point and either all-out revolution occurs, or some other serious event happens. That's just my two Lincoln's worth.

I think chimo, a fellow neo liberal convert of Seacowboys, was referring to stuff, paid for by others so that he could have it for free....at the moment TRump is giving away heaps of free stuff....mainly free from Muslims, immigrants, and criticism of people with small hands, and so forth... ;)

Edit: As of today: It is interesting that in Yard Dart's straw poll, the numbers are evenly distributed among the four categories, reflecting a diversity of feelings about the nature of the political commentary here at SM and its intensity....some people are irked....some people are enthused....and some are more like meh...don't care much either way. I'm not sure that much can be extrapolated from the stats...but it does seem to me, to be a healthy distribution of views.
