I'm only getting some of the story this evening, This is my 4 year old grandson. Super scary day. Ben wandered off while at a friend's house in the country today. He was missing in the woods for three hours before we found him soaking wet at the bank of a deep creek about a quarter mile from where we were. Words cannot express how thankful we are for how this turned out today. Our Hammond PD, paramedics, and wonderful friends and neighbors have our deepest gratitude. I'm so grateful to have my boy home and safe this evening, and we are getting him a GPS device asap! ❤️
Seems a dog found him and helped him out. As the day goes on, he is talking more about his "adventure". He fell in the big creek and was crying. A dog came and was barking but it was nice. The dog was brown and white and black. It got in the water with him and was swimming. When Ben got out of the water he could hear the voices calling him (I'm assuming us calling his name). And then he stayed there and waited for us to find him. So, now I totally want to go looking for this dog in the woods that may have played a part in helping Ben today...
I'm so glad to hear that the adventure had a happy ending. I think we'll all probably give thanks on your behalf Gator
Hopefully you can find that dog and reward it and its owner. If you never see that dog, well, maybe it was sent by the young lad's guardian angel. We've all heard stories of people going through a desperate situation being rescued by strangers, or a strange animal, never to be seen again. I think we've all been helped by an angel at some point in our lives, and never even realized what had happened.
Bless Ben, you folks and everyone that helped! I've had that Gawd awful feeling, Gator, it's unique in its horror! Unforgettable! So glad this all worked out!
All's well that end well they say... but the worry and stress are never welcome... happy that things turned out! Best to you and yours and may the big boss give you many blessing!
Congratulations on this best of all possible outcomes. As close calls go, it doesn't get much closer than that. Some thoughts. Ask Ben if the dog helped him get out of the water. Pulled him to the creek bank, for example. It sounds like the dog may have actually retrieved him. Was Ben standing in the water (crying) or floating in the water (crying) at the time? IOW, how deep is the water there? Check the creek bank where Ben was found for dog tracks, claw marks, etc. Likewise, try to find out where Ben went into the water. Was he carried downstream? If so, how far? And, of course, check with the closest neighbors to find out where the dog may live. If you can't find the dog, put a dish of dog food down at the rescue site, and check on it every now & then, watching for dog tracks. You may wind up feeding the 'possums for a few days, or (just maybe) adopting a valuable stray.
Ok, This is what I learned today Ben was found by a Hispanic contractor that does concrete foundation work for my son whose name is Ramon. When they realized Ben was missing and wandered off Ramon and my son along with a few other men hit the woods looking. Ben had wandered off looking for his older brother and sister when he got lost. He ended up falling in the creek when the dog showed up, Jumped in with him swimming around him in circles barking. Ben made it to the bank and he then could hear people calling for him, I believe this is how Ramon found him from the dog barking. We got Lucky this time nothing bad happened to him! Thanks for the kind words and prayers, The son is going to get some sort of GPS device for Ben since this is not the first time he's wandered off. Many Thanks!

Very glad to hear that there was a happy ending to this...may you never have another scare like that!
Talking to the boy about getting him a Labrador puppy and a GPS as Mindgrinder posted, I think all bases in this case should be covered, Ben is a bit Autistic and seems they are drawn to the water, A Lab would be perfect trained to trail and retrieve the kid.
