    ** Self Indulgence Warning **

Got a good pic of my boy in the snow this morning. He's 3 yrs old now. His names Faust and he's a Shiba Inu (Japanese breed from the same line as dingos).

And yes he's the most wonderful, smartest, most beautiful dog in the world. ;) /proud parent

Quig.... I had no idea that heelers also were from the dingo line, so of course I looked it up....amazing. That explains some of their traits. They probably have a lot of the same personality qualities as the shiba, but I've never owned a heeler.
    Scary smart.
Mostly quiet, but have very interesting noises they make like yodels and "talking".
Independant to the point of frustrating! VERY strong willed.
Convinced they are the biggest, baddest carnivore alive. Assumes dominant positions with dogs four times their size (often at their own peril).
Unlike heeler's I believe though, shibas can't be let off lead. They go off exploring never to return.

And although I love my shiba dearly, I can't recommend the breed to anyone but very experienced dog handlers. If you don't do a good job raising them, they are a nightmare.

Some fairly recent dna testing confirmed shibas to be among the most ancient breeds in the world, not very far removed from their wild counterpart. And I can believe it, if you see a pic of an Asian Dingo, you'd swear it was a shiba, it's tough to tell them apart.

I'll quit rambling..... I get started talkin about my boy and can't shut up :)

In that last pic Could just imagine how high both would have jumped if you had a string to make that skin/head move at about that time. lol

I just have the most poor and neglected pups around.....at least if you ask them, then you could always see the butchering threads to see just how deprivedd they are (only had the older one then but the pup gets in on it now too). It is amuseing to watch the dog start quivering and drooling when he smells me walk in after I have been butchering without him. lol

Blackjack, what a great looking dog!

I've got this girl waiting for me back home. She's about six years old. I got her at the animal shelter my freshman year of high school; they found her on the streets, and they were going to put her down because the muscles in her hind legs didn't fully develop (they suspect that she was just kept in a cage for the first few months she was alive). They actually tried to talk me out of taking her, saying her hind legs were too weak, but I stood there while she licked my hand and saw that she was the biggest dog in the whole place and told them I was going to take her.

From what I've figured, she seems like a mix of Labrador Retriever, St Bernard, and German Shepherd.

When I'm home, I take her on walks and get her moving about. She's a good, loyal dog; it just kills me when the vet says she might not live past 9/10 years. At least I've been able to give her a good life, rather than sitting in a cage at the shelter waiting to die.

    I miss my damn dog.

It's good of you to have adopted her and given her a good life. The helpless ones really tug on the heartstrings, don't they.

I can't even stomach going to the shelter anymore, it's too sad, I want to give all the dogs a home and murder the s.o.b's that neglected them.
