So - I scored one of these on craiglist for $120 delivered with some pecan and apple wood chips. Read the instructions and made some pecan smoked potatoes and baloney just to test it out this morning.

    :4.5s: 4.5/5

    Pros:
Simple load, set timer and go.
Fast - took 20 mins to make a full basket of quartered potatoes.
Uses VERY few wood chips - i used 4 chips total for test run.
Tastes like a regular smoker to me.

    Cons:
Pretty small - only fits enough potatoes for 2 people. (YMMV)

Heading out to get some better chips, chicken, beef and cheese.
Will update thread later with results but so far - so good.

No discussing pressure cookers. We don't want to attract the wrong type of attention!

I looked for it on Amazon and it is not available- Robot Check

I found an old Wal-mart link with a nice description:
The reviews were good. Plus the description above says not may chips are used per use which is bonus, IMO

Thanks for review I had no idea you could smoke small batches.

It's all i had unthawed in the fridge...was gonna throw it in the cast iron and cook it up with the taters and a couple eggs but uh...after first bite i just kept "sampling" till it was all gone.

This is the closest thing I can find that's still on the market.

15 chicken legs (breaded with shake n bake) took 2 loads at 20 mins each.
Threw them in the oven on 300 broil while i made another load of cheese stuffed perrogis...
    Total 1 hr.
Dinner for 4 with leftovers - everything was excellent.
Cleanup - meh not too bad.
Smell - entire 3 story house smells like smokey bbq...doesn't bother us.

Got a brick of old cheddar, gonna give it a whirl tomorrow - will let you know.
I expect it will turn out like this:

    Hickory, apple, pecan or cherry?
Which chips ya think would go well with cheddar?

I've had the hickory smoked cheddar and like it. Personally I would try the apple.

Apple it is for the cheddar.

    How aboot beef burgers?
    Apple or hickory?

I said apple, 'cause that's what Mom served with apple pie, Penna Dutch, ya knows --
For burgers, I'd lean toward hickory if that's the choice available, or let it go commando instead.

As far as the burgers go, I've had both and both are good.
Run with the hickory for the burgers and top with the apple smoked cheese!!

Maybe it was my feral upbringing in the wilds of SoAz, but mesquite is da bomb. You should try it with some ribs or just grill some burgers with a few mesquite chips on the charcoal...
