I found a great article on home remedies. Some I had heard of and forgotten. The article has 43 remedies. I did find that the list is not specific in how to make some of the remedies. Here is the article but please note that some of the ways of doing or things used are not the best. Please follow the link to the rest of the remedies (43 in total) Lost Remedies from Our Forefathers I found a better explained way to make a salt sock. The Magic Salt Sock: Natural Relief for Ear Infections The article calls for course sea salt but I read a few articles that said one could use Epsom Salt (prep item) and one article said any salt will do. Also from Lost remedies article is Sodoul You need an egg, milk, and either sugar or honey. These three ingredients make a wonderful remedy for any sore throat, and it is actually very tasty. Bring the milk to a boil, rub the yolk with sugar or honey, pour the hot liquid over it, and drink. After the second cup, you won’t remember the pain. I have tried to find other ways of making Sodoul but the spelling could be wrong or something. I also question these directions. How do you rub a yolk with sugar? If anyone can shed some light in this I would appreciate it.
Did you mean Gogol-Mogol? So You’re Sick: 5 Cold Remedies from Around the World - Organic Authority Russia Russian grandmothers serve Gogol-Mogol to treat the common cold, an egg-based mixture that is particularly good for coughs. Beat 1 raw egg and 1 teaspoon of honey in a large cup until foamy; in a separate cup melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter in ½ cup milk. Pour milk mixture into egg mixture while beating well, then drink it while hot, taking small sips until it is gone. Drink it at night and wake up tomorrow feeling much better!
Nice link. Most of those recipes have something in them to make you sweat. Peppers and chilis are what I eat when I feel a cold coming on,
I remember a few New Year's Eves ago, I had awful cold/flu bug, I could feel it starting to move into my lungs, was having trouble breathing. Since it was New Year's Eve, I had some apple cider I had managed to ferment properly, and I drank some at midnight. Woke up the next day and all that chest congestion was gone and I could breathe again. I did have a headache, but that didn't bother me cause I like breathing. For the next few days, until the bug went away, anytime I started to have trouble breathing again, I'd take a swig of that cider and I was fine. Unfortunately I have never been able to duplicate that special cider, despite multiple attempts.
How does one go about rubbing an egg yolk with something? I mean, I've got a soft touch when I so desire, but that requires just a little too soft to keep from breaking the yolk.
Egg Nog is almost the same thing! Add in the spices and vanilla with a little Tabasco, or any of the hot chillies and a few drops of mint, and you have a very effective cold remedy! The egg is what acts as a timed media for delivery, honey for soothing and fighting infection, mint for pain, and the stomach settling, Can also add in Black Tea with a little bit of booze to the above and really kick up the healing power!
For Ear aches and infections, mix a tee spoon of olive oil with 1/2 tee spoon of Vinegar ( doesn't matter which kind) add in three drops of honey and one very small drop of pure mint extract ( not pure mint oil, that can kill you) heat to bath temp and using a dropper or squeeze bulb, apply to effected ear with head tilted to side, and massage into ear canal! Let sit for 10 to 15 min, and rinse with warm water. Apply three or four drops of Vinegar and let sit! Replete every 6 hours until cured! Make Ham and Red been soup during this time!
LOL! That was my question also. @Ura-Ki nice earache cures. I used to use garlic in olive oil, then take a dropper and put a few drops in the baby's ear. Never heard of using vinegar
Back in what most of you all would call prehistoric, baby's ears were treated with an oil and Hydrochloric acid. Very effective with clearing out blockages, but the doctor had to pay attention to what he was doing, as it was possible to leave the mix in the ear too long or fail to flush it and neutralize it. Vinegar is an acid. Be guided accordingly. (A very good friend of mine was more than half deaf due to acid burns in his ears at age 2. A navy corpsman did it, Vince's father was in the Navy.)
Vinegar is an astringent and is really good for sensitive skin issues! Mix with aloe for sunburn relief! Mix vinegar with black tea and sea salt and soak feet to get rid of athletes foot and smell!
Puffs from a cigar or cigarette blown into the ear are said to constrict blood vessels and relieve pain. This from my Nanny...though I've never had ear aches, so I can't confirm first-hand.
A nice soggy chaw of tobacco will draw bee stingers out and reduce swelling and itch. (Yes, I know this.)
One of the Indian tribes that had small pox used sweat lodges as a cure and lost very few tribe members to the pox. They had great success with sweat lodges for the pox and other diseases, because as soon as some one showed any signs of being sick they were put in a sweat lodge and had the poisons sweated out of them. One Medicine Man worked through many sweat lodge designs to figure out how to make the best ones, how to build them, how to use stones most effectively, so on and so forth. Read an article about it not long ago, but no idea where now.
I have use cider vinegar and honey for years , Dad taught me about vinegar and I've used it to improve my circulation during the winter months , I can shovel snow while it's snowing and every one else is freezing their hiney off. On the first onset of flu symptoms, I start taking cider vinegar and usually I kill the bug early. The most important issue is dealing ASAP , not waiting till you get home or as some convenient moment. Honey is another good antibiotic .
