I would like this to be an on-going thread. Many times I will see deals spoke of in the shoutbox. I realize that some members never look in the shoutbox or scroll around and may miss a good sale/deal. If members find a great sale on ammo, guns, food or a product that Survival Monkeys may find helpful, feel free to post it in here. Today’s deal that I found was: Wise Company 140-Serving Ultimate Preparedness Pack Amazon.com : Wise Company 140-Serving Ultimate Preparedness Pack : Sports & Outdoors If you do not like Wise, this could be a great gift for friends or family or a bucket to have on hand. Normally-$239.00 Today $99.99 & FREE Shipping
This may be an even better deal Amazon.com: Augason Farms 30-Day Emergency Food Storage Supply Pail: Sports & Outdoors Note: You can sign up for Prime, then after taking advantage of it for a few weeks, not renew. I have done this multiple times.
I have several of these, some of which I purchased for less than $75. Never buy by serving count or day count. That tells you nothing and should be outlawed. It's all about calories if you want to survive. The Wise Bucket contains 21,600 total calories total, 720 per day, you will starve to death, slowly, or eat it all is 10 days. The Augason Farm bucket contains 54,660, 1,822 per day, about the level for a moderately active woman. I have 20.3 million calories stored, and not one bite from Wise.
Generally I agree with you but if, like the majority of the folks who hang around here, you know what you are buying and do so appropriately, a sale like that can be a good deal. In my opinion, it's all about the egg:basket ratio.
Gas....Gasoline. Locally the largest gas station chain and overpriced quick mart foods have a deal where they text updates on gas prices free gas $2 bacon and most recently a free candy bar on Valentines day, my wife loved it. They are trying to drive bodies for their snacks but 2 times a month we get $1 free gas and 2 times a month into a garbage email account we get $1 free gas. They say one use for each text but I usually loose track and the company printer prints extra copies.. Bottom line check out the drive for more E coupons you may save a buck or 10..
I am thinking the $84 (including 2-3 day shipping since I am a Prime member) looks like a very good deal and well worth trying a brand I haven't sampled before. EDIT: I noticed as ordering that it is 5 day shipping rather than the normal Prime 2 day, but that changes nothing that matters. Since I am stocking a limited space motorhome for extended travel, I am thinking the Augason farm is worth a test.
I like the taste of Wise foods. It is not my preferred brand but it is in the top three for taste and what I choose to stock.
Okay here we go .... going to give this a try. Just a little after 8:37am Friday 3 March. Most of the sale stuff I post is sale prices on instock items. The Mrs has been using this lately and reaping extra cash back on purchases. In combination with coupons.... it really seems to work and provide a benefit. Ibotta - Better than Coupons!
I had a friend, a car salesman, that use to say "a good deal is just a frame of mind". If it works for you then that is all that matters. I do hear it is very good. It's just too expensive for me. He also use to say that "happiness is just the right combination of drugs". The older I get and the more I hurt the more I believe that one may be true as well.
This is what I object to. This particular "1 month supply for 1 adult" provides 650 calories per day, less than half of the requirement of a small child. Someone, somewhere is buying this on the basis of its labeling, counting on it to see them through.
One other thing I notice up and down the board of the specialty "survival" foods since I have recently started buying them is that for most, an inordinate amount of those calories are carbs. This is fine for most people probably because their activity level will most likely be higher for those with a chance of surviving long term (meaning those who aren't just hanging around eating their stored food and waiting for FEMA to show). However, in my (and a surprising number of older preppers) case, it means that I need to add on a goodly amount of meat and egg proteins and bump my insulin cold storage a bit.
It is because CARBS are cheap, compared to Protein... even the MFG Kind... except Good Old Peanut Butter.... and Good Fat is also expensive, in prepared Foods, mostly because it limits shelf life... One needs just enough CARBS to fuel the muscles, and enough Prorein to keep the cells regenerating, and Fats to run the nervous system, and brain....
