Where you can and can’t carry a concealed knife.

When discussing concealed carry laws most people completely neglect that other invaluable tool that should be a part of your EDC, a good knife.

Laws and restrictions vary widely from state to state, and most people are surprisingly unaware of the limitations in their area. Things get even worse when you start traveling. That fixed blade you’ve worn on your belt for the last 20 years in Texas will be a big problem if you’re visiting family in Georgia.

Switchblades aren’t illegal across the US, neither are ballistic knives. In some states the concealed carry limit is 3″ but could be as high as 5″ in others.

Take a look at this helpful infographic made by the good folks at Knife Up magazine. Keep in mind that all laws are subject to change at any time. NOTE: Some states laws may have changed since the publication of this infographic. Use this map as a starting guide, but do your own research before you walk out the door with a weapon.

This guide is very general, some of the states marked here have restrictions on knives only in certain areas like schools and government buildings. Do your own research to find out the specific requirements for your state.

Know your rights and spread the word.

Yeah, it is hard to tell what is right and wrong across the US on this map... but my intention was to post for... food for thought per se.
Lots of folks do not have an idea what they can and can not carry.... though they can buy whatever in their AO.
Check your local laws for sure..... don't trust potentially incorrect info found on the web. ;)

Well, this is interesting. I have, I guess, what is called a switched blade - at least it opens like one - but it is a rather expensive one, good steel and springs and a very strong lock. Gerber. It was given to me in Afghanistan by the unit. I keep it in the car and until this moment I never knew it was illegal. I do have an 'Enhanced Concealed' permit so maybe I am not illegal with this but... Good information none the less. Thank you!

The Right to Bear arms shall not be infringed.... Spears, knives, guns, swords... The term "arms" is pretty broad with respect to its meaning.

Thank goodness I live in SC. Even women have knives with the pocket clips hanging out. It has just become an accepted thing in these parts.

Wow, I never knew this. I swear I could read every law and by the time I was done, they would have all changed. Ignorance of the law is not a defense but how does one know every law? Truly, how does one live and know they are within compliance of the current state laws?

I don't know where you are, Bandit, but I believe that, where I live, in OR, no knife is covered by our Concealed Handgun License (CHL). I watched a friend lose his knife and receive a summons from the LEO's while retaining his legal carry handgun.
I, personally, have never given a rats rump about knife restrictions. How I roll/Just my own stupid little blind spot! ;)

Absolutely! Ya know it would be interesting to get Clarence Darrow and sue whatever entity was involved to force plain language drafting of laws! :D Is to chuckle!

Well, it is here in Oregon too, but there are still length restrictions! Two of mine, the Kershaw is legal the Hogue/Wilson Combat is not! :)

Well it appears that we are GTG here in Bama, I'll have to check. I would love a quality "switchblade" but never gave it any thought because I thought they were illegal.

Everybody isn't supposed to be in compliance. It's by design. How would the machine feed if it were easy to be in compliance? A machine that doesn't eat can't grow...and boy howdy, do they want it to grow!

And that 'ignorance of the law is no excuse'? That's the propaganda that bolsters the mindset. Repeat a lie often enough and people begin to believe. The law is easy. Do unto others as you'd have them do to you. Baring that, there's arbitration built into your community. It's not difficult. All of these laws by the state, of the state and for the state aren't for any of our benefit. They're hungry...and your average person going about their daily business is their fare. Yum yum said the cop with a gun. But only after they made up some law that disarms you.
