Decoration, mostly. Tastes foul, but shows up nicely on the stark white of mashed or creamed spuds. As my buddy the chef says, "Presentation influences taste."

Honestly we store at least one bottle of every spice found in our kitchen. I get many of them at a market in B-Ham that sells them 4 for a dollar and at the Dollar General.
    Salt
    Pepper
    Onion Powder
    Parsley
    Chives
    Taco Seasonings
    Oregano
    Bay Leaves
    Sage
    Paprika
    Dill Weed
    Rosemary
    Red Pepper
    Lemon Pepper
    Basil
    Chili Powder
    Cinnamon
    Old Bay
    and many more.
After being the camp cook at Elk camps and living/working in remote Man camps for many years I've learned that often times spices are the key to making an ok meal good and a good meal great. Lets face it, TEOTWAWKI is gonna be tough enough to endure as it is, and having a good meal to look forward to could make all the difference in people's attitudes. Just my [2c]

Just off the top of my, admittedly goofy, head! Spices, herbs and condiments!
A variety of hot sauces, mostly habanero! Everything's better with!
    Asian siracha sauce
    Crushed chili peppers
    Whole nutmegs
    Dried shallots
    Whole black peppercorns
    Sea salt
    Iodized salt
    Cumin
    Onion and garlic powders
    Packets of taco seasoning
    Sesame oil for flavoring
    Dark soya sauce
Sweet rice wine vinegar, by the gallon
Low sodium soya sauce, by the gallon
    This is just a sample.
We grow our own culinary herbs and have seeds on hand. You should buy whole spices and grind them as you need them, both for storage and everyday use! Whole spices last much longer than ground!
I'm sure you guys noticed the Asian condiments we keep on hand. Since my tour in Asia with the Army I have cooked Asian style food and if we hit a shtf situation we will go to a basic rice or noodles (Ramen), a little veg, a little meat diet. Quick to cook, requiring little fuel, hearty, makes the rat or neighbor's poodle go much farther! :cautious:

@Dunerunner I forgot celery seed. I use celery seed and celery salt more then a few I named. It is a unique flavor that seems to blend in nicely with most dishes.

@Brokor curry is one, what else are your go to spices?

The usual stuff. I have lots of dried chili peppers, though. Lots of marinara, so bay leaf and rosemary are a must. I also keep a healthy dose of clove in powder and whole form. Salt and pepper are a given. I do frequently use mixed herbs in paste form, too (very potent and tasty). I once kept a huge assortment of steak seasoning but tossed it all out because it got moisture damage and I didn't use it anyway because I generally just season steak and lamb with Worcestershire, salt, pepper, and olive oil.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

I grow and store a ton of oregano, basils, rosemary, and thyme. Also dry, crush, and store a lot of red aneheim, habanero, paprika and cayenne. Premade mixes, I stock up on Fiesta's ground cumin and lemon pepper, and some Dollar Tree blend of garlic pepper salt. Then of course salt; kosher, sea, iodized sea. What else. Whole peppercorns, whole fennel seed, red and yellow curry powder, ground turmeric, smoked paprika, ceylon cinnamon... I get seasonings in bulk from nuts.com and some from this Indian market over in north Dallas when I'm in the area.
