Permission to come aboard?

Hello from Northeast Florida. Most of my survival training was long ago, far away, and has been at government expense. But it is apparent that it worked, otherwise this would be a real short introduction. Dabbling in "Bushcraft" I've perused some of the literary giants:Richard Graves, Mors Kochanski, etc.......... One of my all time favorites is BACK TO BASICS (Readers Digest) How to learn and Enjoy Traditional American Skills. Being somewhat antique, I still subscribe to OUTDOOR LIFE etc.

If you have any problems or issues, PM a mod. They are, in my experience helpful towards new members who are feeling their way. Don't stand too close to me....I'm a bit of a flak catcher, and wouldn't like you to experience collateral damage aimed at me.

Who you callin' ancient you old fossil. Do they even still have gunners mate rating in the modern navy?

 

What? I don't know! Been out longer than I was in, and probably haven't been on a Naval Base in 10 years plus. What was the question? Actually, the Navy .... for a very short period of time in the recent past did away with all ratings; yeoman, radioman, operations specialist, quartermaster, signalman, sonarman, gunnersmate etc etc.
All of that lasted less than 6 months before they reversed their decision ..... DUH

How to answer? (Probably in Sailor Lexicon ) Blue Nosed, Blue Balled, Shellbacked, Black Bag Sniper Frogman! That was forced to become a Special Assignment Aircrew man (NAC/CAC/SAR) in 1983. Perhaps I'll just brace the Leeward Bulkhead and listen to the unrepentant split-tailed scuttlebutt running rampant in the goat locker. I could tell you hair raising Sea Stories that would knock the barnacles off "Old Bill". But me mouths gone dry, so we will have to wait till we hit the Pub on the Strand. LOL. (Will that due tacmotusn?)
