NRA did something I do NOT care for

The NRA recently dis-invited USCCA and at least one other CCW insurance group from it's latest show/gathering... no real reason given... just cancelled their booth's and said don't show up...

and then the NRA came up with it's own CCW insurance...

to me that just seems wrong and I sent em a email askin em WTF are they doing... FREE MARKET competition... if your version can't stand up to the other guys...

well... FORCING them out is just LAME IMHO

let the insured choose the one they think is better... or they prefer... that way the one that offers the best will attract the most...

I do NOT like having someone decide for me...

and I admit I am a member of USCCA already they came out with what seemed to me a dang good program long time back...

and I say IMHO the NRA may have been wise to stay out of this insurance thing or incorporate USCCA in to NRA an affiliated program... seen what's offered and I like what I got...

here is a little something worth thinkin on....

please keep in mind who is sayin what here...

thinkin comparing makes sense but we should hear from both sides on this... this is one...

I wanted to compare USCCA’s Self-Defense Shield and NRA’s Carry Guard insurance programs. What follows, is what I found:

You’ve no doubt heard by now that USCCA was dis-invited by the NRA to the Annual Meetings. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, make sure you check out the article we wrote about that, first, as you may be confused concerning what you’re about to read.

The basic premise is that the reason why they weren’t allowed to go is because the NRA started a firearms insurance program very similar to the self-defense insurance USCCA offers.

They didn’t want another company stepping on their toes, so they were uninvited.

The two insurance programs, while they look similar topically, are actually pretty different when you take a closer look at them under a microscope. Sure, they both offer up weapons coverage should you ever need your gun in self-defense. But, many of the similarities stop there.

I wanted to get the training aspect handled, first, because one thing that many people are excited about is the NRA’s Carry Guard training program. I’ve seen nothing that indicates this high-level training from combat veterans is included in your monthly cost. In other words, any gun owner can take the in-person concealed carry training regardless of their status as a Carry Guard member.

This is important because at first glance it looks like it’s included in the cost, along with some dicey wording to make it seem that way. Upon further digging, however, it doesn’t look like it is included. Instead, the included training you do get immediate access to, is a video series entitled: Rights & Responsibilities. It looks like it talks about just that: your rights and responsibilities as a gun owner. USCCA has similar training.

Being that I was just at the NRA’s Annual Meeting, I had the opportunity to confirm with an NRA employee at the sign up booth that the in-person concealed carry training is not included. He even agreed that the website wasn’t very clear on this.

Now, that does not mean that they can’t (or won’t) change that, or offer up some sort of discount to NRA Carry Guard members in the future. This is very plausible, especially once the NRA figures out how many people they just upset with this USCCA stunt and the simple fact that their insurance program is about as good as the USCCA’s was three years ago.

Once we realize that this tactical training is not included, we can compare the two different programs for exactly what they are: Gun insurance programs. How are they different? Let’s dive deeper into it. The following chart compares the two, and their most important aspects:

As you can see, the programs are vastly different. The aspects that stand out most to me are: The cost for the program, the amount of self-defense coverage it buys, access to funds when needed, and exactly what is covered. What it boils down to, is that off the cuff the USCCA’s program looks better with cheaper cost, more coverage, and the ability to use my fists or knife in self-defense should something happen to my gun.

More importantly, if I do need to use my weapon in self-defense, I can get access to 100% of the money needed right away, up to $1.125 Million. The NRA’s Carry Guard, on the other hand, gives you 20% up front, and the rest only if you’re found not guilty.

So, if I go to court and spend $500,000 in fees after I legally defend myself with a gun, but am found guilty for the stupidest thing, I’m responsible for that money. That sucks.

Then again, the NRA has been around forever and has a pretty good track record of being the go-to source for firearms training and programs for many years. I highly doubt they will falter, and the program will likely get better with time. The choice, I suppose, will be left up to you. In a throw-back to one of my favorite movies, The Matrix, I offer you a choice.

On one hand, the blue pill will bring you to USCCA’s website and show you all their gun insurance program has to offer. The other hand has the red pill, and will bring you to NRA’s Carry Guard website to show you the benefits to their firearms program. Remember, I offer you a choice, and nothing more:

    [IMG] [IMG]

Which pill did you choose? Let me know in the comments below.

As a former instructor, the NRA has been doing some bullshit lately. They changed up the concealed carry course (basic pistol) so that you now get to pay them $75, and send $15 to an instructor after you take the course online!!!

i'm not interested in discussion that proposes to abandon the NRA. I too have been disappointed that not only do they fail to support what they should, they have actively supported what the should NOT (Harry Reid for example).
However it is simply suicidal to take them down, that's just not an option. I'd be perfectly happy to have a discussion of who to vote for in their board elections, that would actually be constructive (and much needed, since almost nobody knows any of them except the movie stars and even those people don't know whether they're any good for us).
Promote others too, certainly. Good NRA board members would be able to direct our organization to do the right thing. But put it back in your pants if you want something INSTEAD.

    thinkin you may misunderstand here?

not sayin leave or not join... but a few folks left the NRA years ago and gave us all warnings about what was to come...

been watchin n thinkin ever since... my money may start going to other 2nd Amendment groups...

I may maintain my membership in the NRA as well... but from recent stuff starting to look like the NRA...

may NOT be all it claims... starting to look like there are some that are there for OTHER reason...

I will wait and watch and continue...

NRA life member, so they already have my money and I'm in for the long run no matter if I like what they are doing or not. After looking at the comparison there is no question I would go with USCCA and if they were exactly the same I would still go with USCCA if what was stated about them not being allowed at the NRA meeting is true.

When I received my America's 1st Freedom (NRA) magazine this month it had an extra cover on it promoting Carry Guard along with a 2 page article about it inside. I thought well that's pretty douchey of them to promote this with the first, second, next to last and last page along with a 2 page article, but it's their magazine and they can do what they want.

I agree with @snake6264 that they have always hounded their members for money. It used to be bad enough getting moocher mail every week from them, but when they started pushing members to add them into their wills and estates, that started to really piss me off. I got news for them...at least half of my money is going into an account and will be paid out monthly in specific amounts to a local animal shelter.

Ok, so a simple post about carry insurance devolves into an A to Z whinefest about every annoying thing the NRA has ever done, because, after all, they have only five million members and it certainly can't be very hard to make all of them happy all of the time. Go figure.

As for USCCA being kicked to the curb at the NRA convention, yeah it is kind of douchebaggy move from a PR standpoint, but the basic business strategy behind it is legitimate. The USCCA is a competitor to the NRA in the carry insurance market, so why would the NRA give them any exposure at an NRA event?

After all, would anyone seriously be shocked & dumbfounded if Verizon requested to set up a booth at the AT&T annual shareholders' meeting and was summarily laughed at and flatly refused?

This seems like a whole lot about nothing.

Yeah I saw this a while back and thought about posting it here too.

NRA life member for 40 years so I have seen a lot of changes in the NRA, almost none for the better. That said, they ARE the 800 lb gorilla in the room, that can not be discounted, but after Neil Knox got in, kicked butt and took names, they got rid of him and put Chuckie Heston in as spokesman and it was business as usual.

Chuckie the Scum was actively ANTI-gun! As in took out a full page LA TIMES ad to push for more gun control IF they left shotguns alone. Chuckie was a big trap and skeet shooter, he hated rifles and especially the so called "assault rifles" (he was quoted who knows how many times, including a live radio show you can find if you look, saying "No one needs...". this that or whatever "to shoot doves" - yes actual quote! Got news for you Chuckie, the 2nd Amendment ain't about hunting, and yes we DO need them!), because he was another elitist like Bill Ruger (who wrote and pushed through the "Assault Rifle Ban" and "Hi-Cap Magazine Ban" which you can also look up if you don't believe me). Ever wondered WHY you ONLY saw Chuckie with a broken open O/U or muzzleloader, NEVER a modern firearm? Because he didn't want us sheeple to have semi-auto anything, especially modern military style firearms! You know, the "modern sporting rifle". Do a google search to see all of the lies and crapola Chuckie and the NRA has done, it is amazing.

Am I going to drop my NRA Life Membership? Of course not! I did however tell that scum telemarketer, REPEATEDLY, to stop calling, period, and if he kept calling me three or four times a day when I quit answering, I'd hunt him down and ram that phone down his throat!

If only it was that simple. The USCCA has ALWAYS been at the NRA convention, had the paid reservations and was all ready to go when, BAM!, the NRA decides to bring out their version of USCCA insurance and pulls USCCA's tables. "(K)ind of douchebaggy move" doesn't even come close.

I keep pointing out that our worst enemies are our "friends" (NRA, Chuckie Heston, Billy Ruger, the list is nearly endless) in the firearms movement who sell us out, stab us in the back and shit all over us, but no one will listen until THEY get THEIR tit caught in the wringer and then they whine why no one warmed them. Well you have NOW been warned.

Ah.....the NRA are taking a leaf from those perfidious socialist unionists in turning NRA shows into a CCW Insurance closed shop....next we'll be seeing Alinsky inspired manifestos no doubt ;)....

The NRA's sole purpose is to keep their NRA jobs. Their best financial interest does not align with what is a reiteration of the people's rights as stated in the 2nd amendment once government actually recognizes what is merely restated therein. They'll never ever admit this to themselves, let alone to their members. See it or don't, it's up to each of us to form our own opinion and act accordingly. How many times must they punch you in the eye before you admit to yourself that they feed off of your fear and wallet? Only you can answer that for you.

The right just loves to bemoan the fact that the left operates of, by & for special interests, yet can't see, never mind calling out, the NRA for being exactly that. :cautious:

Of course. It's politics. One has to stand up and be counted, or the contest becomes one sided. Pick your own champion in a fight. I'd a whole lot sooner have an 800 lb gorilla in my corner than an organ grinder's monkey.

Sure it's politics. And all politics is is a great big game played by a minority of the population that presupposes that several thousand people do indeed have some mythical power over all of us. Yet we're free... I'm perfectly happy to watch from the sidelines but don't put me in coach. It's not my sorta game. You're free to participate at your leisure, however. Tragically, the game's rules seem to allow for death of the participants & spectators alike and no opt out to be had.

Yeah, that all sounds good, but I have this silly, old fashioned, idea that the NRA works for US!!! And, yeah, it just ain't so! I'm an annual member. The "association" is lucky I came back aboard at all after some of their previous peccadilloes. Most of my available donation moneys stay in my region! I will remain an annual member in NRA. I'm not worried about the Feds at my door! We are in a fight in the GPNW and here is where I'm fighting!

You know Chelloveck, for someone whose grip on reality is some what tenuous, I do believe you have the right of it now.

Wait, are you serious? Next you will claim that politicos are "public servants" and the po-LICE'S job is to "serve and protect" the honest law abiding citizen instead of generating money for the state. Where DO these ideas come from? Reality certainly does not support them.

The thing is...the organ grinder's monkey can be trained...now, If I was the organ grinder, I'd sign my monkey up with the NRA, get it a CCW license and arm it with one of those gorilla killer pistols I see so much about in gun forums...sometimes brute strength counts for less than smarts and technology ;)
