Promise to buy her a pirate wench costume..

Been thinking about the OP sitting in my chair with my mason jar. TV's on, but just for background noise.
As I think and sip, yes I am living my dream. I am a very fortunate man. Blessed even. When I was young, all I wanted was to be a Cowboy. Still am in some ways, although the days of broncs and bulls are in my past. I have been given a talent for mechanical things. I was able to turn that into a good career, took advantage of the chance to travel along the way and have worked on every continent at one time or another. Been to a lot of places, met a lot of people and have had a hell of a good time along the way.
A number of years ago I was seriously injured in an oil rig explosion. Spent 9 months in hospital, burn units and rehab.
I promised God and myself that once I got through it all I would find a quiet place, buy a piece of ground and just live life.

    That's what I do.

    Y'all have admirable concepts.
All I want to do is pass along my childhood memories to my Grandchildren without my children mucking it up. I can't even explain the generational or conceptional differences, so when your children rightfully say that thier children can't watch a pg-13 movie with Grandpa until they are 14, and Grandpa hasn't a chance in Hell of living until the Grandchildren are 14, what chance is there of Grandpa living/sharing His dreams with his Grandchildren?

Is it not said that a child should obey their parents?
You are your child's parent, correct?
Tell them to go off and do stuff while you impart wisdom upon your Grandchildren
Yer kids will get over it...;)

I do not have a dream or vision of a life different than the one that I have lived. If I were given the opportunity to do it over, no thank you. I am satisfied with the person that I have become. Do I have problems? Sure. Are there things that I am less than happy with? of course. Could I use more money and free time? Well, yeah. Would I trade lives with anyone else? Not a chance.

Living the life I was meant to, despite all the serious dangerous things I did and still do, and that is also a part of the life I am meant to live! A life of dreams vs a life well lived, I will take the life well lived

I am in transition so I am not living my dream and will not be for a while. A few things have to happen before I pursue the life I desire.

I wanted to go to Alaska .
Dad served in the army in the Aleutians, Cold bay to be exact , though things have changed since then I'd like to live there as enjoy the territory like he did .
More than that I enjoy observing wild life and breathing the free air and the sounds , wolf song, and the wind .
Cold is home to me .I grew up in the mountains and loved the winter time most.
The thing about cold is you know that eventually your going to be some where getting warm again.
I understand the Russian sweat lodges and their purpose , want to build one there . (if i go)
Personally I enjoy swimming among the fish, rather than fishing , I like fish too but it's more fun being in the water. I like hunting too but only for food, not for fun . Even if i kill a rattler, it's dinner, not a trophy.
I also like meeting people and learning from them .
In a place like that, people have come from all over the world ,and bring their life experiences with them. Much like here.(SM)
There are several reasons I haven't gone , the most significant is financial, but more than that, I have to deal with all the stuff dad and brother left me , literally tons of stuff/antiques /equipment . that, and I've got chickens so I'd have to pawn off the flock to some one else.
Also I am taking care of a friend who's future is looking pretty dim ,so I'm not abandoning them, for something selfish.
it is selfish dream , but a dream never the less.

It's not a selfish dream Bro.
You are taking the path less traveled by putting other's needs in front of your "wants". Not many would do that, and for what it's worth-good onya. Here's ta hoping you get to live that dream eventually.

A great thread with an interesting title, especially the 'why'.

I believe I am. I left my home country and the corporate world some 13 years ago, travelled a long while, lived and worked in a few countries in various trades and finally settled a few years ago on the coast of Cambodia. I bought a plot of land up in the jungle, which is where I now live, off-grid, tending to my organic veggie garden with my wife and 4 great dogs.

The 'simple life', for me, has proved to be a thousand times more wholesome and rewarding than I ever imagined it would be.
