Good minimalist approach. Sort of outside of the box thinking based on what his experience has shown works and how to adapt what you most likely have available around the house now and how to put it into a kit that you can have available in one place and actually find if TSTF. Strong points are medical and shelter. Well worth looking at no matter what your experience level is just to get someone elses take on a minimal carry kit based on their experiences. Personal bias is that I also like wool blankets, tarp shelters, layered clothing, and emphasis on medical care, rather than the usual $600 light weight tents, $500 light weight sleeping bags, and half of the guide in the kit being what is the best firearm to carry we normally find in discussions on disaster kits

Thank you for the time and effort DKR..

I just got so tired of seeing cheap Chinese crap and a few 4 oz bags of water being passed off as a disaster kit. For $100s of dollars. Insane. The only disaster IS the kit.

This was designed to sit in a closet until needed - so it had to be inexpensive.

    Thanks for the kind words.

I have more than one kit and I use them regularly. I cannot stress how important it has been for me to use my kit and figure out that, for example, I just found out I need bar soap in my kit. We did a hike in to take care of one of my mom's places and when we got there I had dw detergent (which I figured would do double duty), but no bar soap. I was flat miserable. I know it's wasted space for many, but I can't sleep unless I feel like my hands and face are clean. So, now I have a bar of Irish Springs (did I mention I smell like a guy?) in my pack. I'm sure we all have these idiosyncrasies, but you don't know yours unless you practice.
