Who is going to carry a sword in public? I will truthfully admit if the guy behind me in the supermarket had a sword, it would make me uncomfortable. Maybe because I am not used to seeing them.

That actually makes some sense, and may also explain some of the apoplectic fits that hoplophobes throw when they see a gun in public.

    Sweet.
@moto-...maybe, somebody on this site might be known to occasionally wear a sword in public. I'm just saying.

I think some theists are quite catholic about the steel that they lop heads off with....I wouldn't expect to see many scimitars though...that might make some citizens just a little too nervous @Motomom34

I wouldn't mind strapping on my Kukri, or Tanto, or Scottish Dirk.
The Katana would be a bit much.

How about a saber in a scabbard? I have to wonder what the swordophobes would do if a full dress uniform serviceman (or woman) stopped off to pick up a jug of milk on the way home from a ceremony. Did I wuz wunna dem, there is NO way I'd leave my sword in the car in most areas of the world. I wonder as well what the knifeophobes think when they find out that Sikh behind them in line at the store (legally) carries a knife ALL the time as part of his culture?

I can just about get away with wearing a Sgian Dubh Sgian-dubh - Wikipedia in public, but only when wearing my regimental kilt (Black Watch) on ANZAC day. I get a pass for being in correct military regalia...and cultural tradition....and the "old fogey" defence.

I wore an infantry pattern sword (with Sam Browne leatherwear) to my father's investiture at Government House in Sydney when he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (Military Division), and it didn't raise an eyebrow.....oh...I was also wearing my army uniform at the time. :D

I think that pattern seems to belong to the 'sand pounder' clan. ;)

I knit steel wool, with a pair of stainless steel 'fire wire' BBQ skewers.....the points are honed to stiletto sharpness, and the flexible wire makes a fine garrotte. Oh...I have a few skeins of yarn as my cover for killer knitting needles. ;)

Governor signs bill allowing Texans to carry swords, spears, and more
A bill signed into law by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will now allow adult Texans to carry around long-bladed weapons, according to KPRC-TV.

Abbott signed House Bill 1935 in June, allowing Texans to carry around swords, spears, bowie knives, or anything you may have seen in “Game of Thrones.”

Currently, the law prohibits state residents from carrying around anything larger than 5.5 inches. The law will go into effect on Sept. 1, allowing anyone 18 years of age or older to carry their weapon of choice around with them.

Despite the change, carrying weapons longer than 5.5 inches will still be prohibited in certain places. Schools, prisons, hospitals, amusement parks, churches, sporting events, and bars will remain sword-free by law.

So - a major change in the law. Not seen too often these days.

Plano police arrest samurai sword-wielding man wearing armor, cape
A man wearing armor and a cape was arrested Thursday after ignoring officers' commands to drop a samurai sword he was carrying around a north Plano neighborhood, police said.
Charles Vincent Chiquillo, 25, was booked into the Collin County Jail and is facing charges for assaulting a public servant and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

A Bowie knife (pronounced /ˈbuːiː/ BOO-ee or /ˈboʊ.iː/ BOW-ee) is a pattern of fixed-blade fighting knife created by James Black in the early 19th century for Jim Bowie, who had become famous for his use of a large knife at a duel known as the Sandbar Fight. (Sandbar Fight - Wikipedia)

Since the first incarnation, the Bowie knife has come to incorporate several recognizable and characteristic design features, although in common usage the term refers to any large sheath knife with a crossguard and a clip point.[5] The knife pattern is still popular with collectors; in addition to various knife manufacturing companies there are hundreds of custom knife makers producing Bowies and variations.

And now you can carry on the tradition of large knives, huge belt buckles and smaller things Texans are known for....
