Greetings from New York, My name is Jason and I'm, obviously, very new here. By comparison, I'm very new to the ideas of prepping and survivalism, but it's something I'm very interested in and have a healthy respect for. In joining this community, my only goal, right now, is to learn, not teach. I'm 27, but have an appreciation for the wonders of the outdoors, and know very minimal skills. I can catch and clean fish, make fires, and that's about it. My personal goal, one of them anyway, is to live completely sustainably, but that seems very daunting. There's lots more I could say here, but I have other priorities at present and just wanted to introduce myself a bit.
Hello @Jamatto1 welcome to Survival Monkey. You have a great start plus you want to learn. Give a shout if you need help. Glad you found us.
Welcome. As Merkun said, you probably know more than you think you do. Our goal is to help you realize that you are not without skills even though you might not have used them yet and then to learn even more. Glad you joined us
Welcome to the Monkey... we all have skill sets that others may not. You may have the knowledge or the ability to explain the knowledge you learn here to some one else... don't sell yourself short...
Welcome aboard, glad to have You! Don't worry, we all had to start some where and there is no dumb question except the one you don't ask, so dig in and have fun!
Welcome, Jamatto, there's much that can be learned here...particularly from the Resources Forum Resources | Survival Monkey Forums However, everyone has things from their own experience, skillsets and knowledge to contribute to the SM knowledge base. Don't forget, asking thoughtful, intelligent, questions is a form of teaching...I understand it's called the Socratic method. Socratic Teaching If your respectful self introduction is anything to go by, I'm thinking that you'll have few, if any, issues that would be problematic with continued membership in the SM tree.....however, you may find familiarising yourself with the following posts would be useful. Survivalmonkey.com - Site Rules | Code of Conduct | Survival Monkey Forums Welcome new site members, from a member (not a mod) | Survival Monkey Forums If you are having any issues that are concerning you about your experience here as a SM member, or are having technical difficulties with the site, please don't hesitate to call out to any of the admins or mods: they are here to help, and a better band of folks would be hard to find. They too are bound by the site's CoC and also have their own set of moderating guidelines to comply with. Talking of technical issues....take the time to have a look at Brokor's thread Did You Know? Forum Tips and Tricks (New) | Survival Monkey Forums...it will help you navigate the site more easily, and allow you to wring every last bit of digital functionality from the site... Again, welcome...I look forward to reading your contributions to the site.
Glad to have you here. It appears you're already light years ahead of most people these days, who would never soil their delicate fingers by cleaning a fish or building a smoky old fire. One would assume from your outdoor activities that you hang out in upstate or western New York, but that's just an assumption. I had an aunt and uncle who retired in the Catskills. They're long gone.
