This is a really long article but an interesting read. A reporter from the Guardian attended a Survivalist Summit and gave his thoughts. At the beginning of the article he starts out dressing for the part to attend this event. I have been to Expo's and gun shows and know that there is not a dress code so him putting together what he thought was what a survivalist looked like made me suspicious of what I would read.

I would say that the article gave me somethings to think on. I will admit the beginning of the article is obnoxious in my opinion but keep reading.....

Sheesh! Worried about what they're going to wear to a survivalist summit just goes to show that they have no clue to begin with...
And THAT is the real problem.

SO many choices, but which one? Gotta go out shoipping for just the "right Look" so every one will think i'm all hard core!!!!! ROTFLMAO

Does this ghillie suit make my butt look too big? Does Cerakote Burnt Bronze clash with MagPul FDE? I gotta redo everything!

I agree with you Motomom, At first I thought he was just a pretentious 'penny a word pulp fiction writer' with a penchant for word spaghetti...

    emphasis mine.

Marche writes from an outsider's viewpoint, which is understandable, being a Canadian.

America has lost a lot of the vitality that it once had, and has become consumed by the kind of internal war of cultural supremacy...that external competitors until now, could only dream of exploiting. It looks like Herr TRump is helping those dreams come true in the quest of his fantasy of MAGA.

Indeed....it's tempting to be drawn to replying to the peripheral fripperies of the opinion piece....the meat of the essay is, however, worth chewing over and digesting.

Don't say this often, but good find Moto. I think we can very much agree on this.

So, a vitriol filled diatribe from a rabid liberal Canadian, who obviously misses the point by a mile. Okay. Ten minutes stolen from my life reading that tripe.

How long are folks supposed to live?
Mid Life for a septuagenarian means that 140 is commonplace.
Otherwise, these are just childish thoughts.

I thought it would be the usual commie-tard set of lies that we all read in the lame stream press, but he veers, quite by accident, into useful territory. Some of it WAS the usual commie-tard set of lies that we all read in the lame stream press, but some was quite insightful, as I said, quite by accident. But like Chelloveck said, he does seem like some penny-a-word-pulp-hack-writer.

America is no longer the world's po-lice man? Well THANK GOD FOR THAT! Let the banksters and poli-ticks find some other poor saps to do their dirty work, and die so the scum can get their hands on the almighty dollar! Think I made that up? Go see who funded BOTH SIDES of WWI, WWII, and every other war since, or ever, for that matter. AND were PAID by BOTH sides when it was all over! I stupidly got shot during the Gulf War, for what?! To make the world safe for banksters?! Remember WWII was fought to make the world safe for communism, and you can see the result at any college or university in the USSA.

So is the USSA doomed? Sure it is. Where is Rome, Sparta, Egypt, or even the freedom that once made America great? Gone, just like our youth and dreams.

Last I spoke with my WWII Uncles, it wasn't until the Gulf War that America had another Winner.
How many folks spat on you at the airport when you returned from the Gulf War.
    I'll say no more.

Well, no, no one spit on me at the airport. When the first one that looked like they might was punched out, the rest suddenly felt the need to leave or keep their comments to themselves. You need to hang out in airports more if you think they won't or don't any more.

First part of the article he does worry about what to wear. Sounds like he usually dresses like a 40 year old Canadian hipster.
Next claims the United States is too big to fail. Because the economy appears to be doing well at the moment and we have a big military, seems to be bitching about the size of the US military as if it's caused him a lot of anxiety and cost him a lot of therapy.
After that blames the decline of society on conservative prepper types, because everything was perfect under the baby boomers. Defends lame stream media with sycophant lock step precision.
Then goes on to talk down about anti government types with strong hint of disgust and self elitism.
That's only about 1/4 of the article. It's a crock of shit and can't force my self to read any more.

    Don't waste your time.

I don't expect to return from any other foreign campaigns in my limited lifetime. But if my neighbor decided that he needed to spit on me while I was defending our property, I might just decide to let him defend his property alone. I don't know what I'd get for a neighbor, but I knew what I had...............................

I'm not sure even Canadians are "Beliebers"... ED Smith preserves alone make Canada worthwhile. That Garand thing was pretty nifty, too. Also, seems the further North you go the better the pork gets, not sure if it's the cold but the best bacon and ham I've had comes from there as well.

I thought there were some pretty good points in the article, nothing really new, but quite a few things I didn't quite get the first few years.

America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. What does it mean to be free in midlife? What does it mean to be brave? What does it mean to be free when you have a five-year old daughter, like I have?

Is freedom just what you could have been, rather than what you turned out to be? Is freedom just a word for youth that has passed?

I have been thinking on what do I want as freedom. The author of the article said In America, the answer is violence. I have to disagree because Europeans have rioting down to a science. Look at all the other countries that the citizens are terrified of their governments. Americans are some of the most charitable but the violence seems to be what is spotlighted. You would think the world wars were fought here.

I am open enough to enjoy the article. To see an expo through someones eyes who hold a dislike towards the country, towards survivalists is an interesting thing. He even admitted that he found the oath keeper like other Americans to be likable. I thought that was interesting. He was treated kindly yet he ridiculed.
