Seems that my neighborhood just keeps filling up with Navy Veterans. Except for the new neighbor on my west. Ex Army.
When my Grand children are visiting I have a couple of 8 month old Labs in the back yard. The other neighbors can't believe how big they have become. But the newest neighbor on the west and I had a meet & greet conversation. I asked if he would mind if I opened and returned his full grown German Shepherd if it jumped the 3 foot cyclone fence between or properties? No trouble neighbor, was his answer. So I then asked what he wanted me to due with the dogs collar if it jumped the 3 foot cyclone fence and troubled my Grandchildren while they were playing with thier puppies in my back yard. He decided that he would take a little more time to ensure that his German Shepherd wouldn't jump the fence. Neighborhood Watches, can't beat them.

Yes indeed, Labs bite more people in the U.S. than German Shepard's and can clear a 3' foot fence, Dude whom laid down the law may be collecting his own collar, Seems fitting!

Been blessed here with great neighbours for the most part. 14yrs in this spot and really only had trouble with one. And in that case he was the boyfriend of the granddaughter of some older folks across and about six down from us. Seems like the granddaughter and him needed lodgings for a bit and grandparents being what they are offered. Well both (he and the girlfriend) are mentally defective, he criminally so and she was just not 100%, probably why she was going out with him. He decided my dogs were evil and that I was a "cruel c#nt" for how I kept them (they live better than many many humans if there was any question - and are akin to our kids). I hear him screaming over my fence at them one afternoon and went and checked he was OK. From the street (5 entire feet from my property) he screamed about them, me, Mrs Andy etc etc. How he knew what she was (that's another story) and what a c#nt that made her. Even in his state he was just smart enough not to come up the driveway to where I was standing. Several of the other neighbours came out to see what was happening (Paramedic, heavy construction worker, Boarder Force, recently retired Army and a musician). He finally departed down the street. I attended my LAC (Police Local Area Command) and made sure the incident was recorded as an event only. The young constable who recorded the event for me commented on my great self control...LOL Crazy had a few night of walking the street and standing out front laughing but that was about it. Neighbour Lady (Paramedic) called me one afternoon to let me know that there were five marked Police vehicles down the street at The Crazy's place and he was face down on the road cuffed and the girlfriend was being taken away bloodied. Have never seen him again....

No fences here, no loose dogs either. Just bear, coyote, a cougar or two, eagles and bobcat,,

Talked a good friend into buying the house next door, fellow Ham and prepper. We installed cameras on both houses that either of us can watch, and we always have a helping hand nearby. Neighbor on the other side has never spoken in 21 years but is a cop, so I have a bit of good on that side. Decent neighbors make it more enjoyable.

Fences are for cattle, dogs never stay home no matter what the owners say.

Wish I had neighbors like that. Mostly they keep to themselves, with the exception of the one fellow across the street. Life is too short to complete a conversation with him.

The one next door is a nurse and on the other side of her is a fellow who drives for UPS and his family. They're both OK but we don't have much interaction with either. They can't stand each other.

We keep our doors locked even when we're home. If we're out in the yard for a time and can't keep an eye one or more of the entrances, we lock the doors.

By today's standards, it's a middle class neighborhood. Just goes to show how far this society has deteriorated in some locales. As soon as I'm retired, the house goes up for sale and we're moving to our remote property. Closest neighbors there are about two miles as the crow flies and we know them, all of them. Some live there full time, others only visit several times a year. A couple are active church-going types (wife and I, not so much) but that's far preferable meth heads or coke addicts.

My boy puts his front paws on the top of our 5 foot fence and stares at people that pass by.....once in a while he does the crazy larry, like he is going to go over the fence after them (and he could if he wanted or needed to).....no issues with our neighbors or others coming in our AO unannounced. ;)

How does that happen that you live next to each other and do not talk? I admit that I am a talker but to have someone close by and not converse. Is the cop the one that isn't friendly? My Ex was like that. He never knew our neighbor had a wife until I moved in.

I only talk with 1 maybe 2 of my neighbors. The others, although few , just seem to have that better than though attitude. It seems the others felt like they had some kind of seniority in the neighborhood , which means nothing to me, and they learned that pretty quick. You don't mess with me and I won't mess with you.
But it seems like your ex wasn't very aware of his surroundings. Me, I know who lives with my neighbors, how many live there, kids , dogs , work schedules, what kind of car most of their visitors drive, when the mailman comes . I live at the end of a dirt road, and most of the time , I can tell who is coming down the road by the sound the car makes on the the road. I'm not nosy, just aware.

Guess that means that there are more Labs than German Shepherds. But any dog with teeth can bite. I'd probably be the first one to put down one of the Grand Children's Labs if they troubled any of the neighborhoods children. It's just not good medicine to have children and children aggressive dogs in unsupervised situations.

Now about the biting power of a German Shepherd. When Uncle Stan came HOME the Government directed that his service dog either had all it's teeth pulled if it accompanied him HOME, or the dog would be put down. As a child I thought it cruel that Grandpa's German Shepherds (which watched over the Bar & Gas Station) could eat Slim Jim's while Uncle Stan's German Shepherd had to have all his food pureed. It really made me sad when Uncle Stan's German Shepherd had to be put down for strangling the guy that B&Ed into Uncle Stan's house. A dog with no teeth can't bite, but they buried the bugler all the same.

Midnight with Michelle. Gator 45/70, back then the telephone was at the Drug Store, America hadn't even entered the "Space Race", and preteen children walked the streets with radio flyer wagons to deliver the newspaper. So how much mylar would you like to spin at the archives in the Wooster Public Library? Link???????

Perhaps we have a different directive for Labs?

The dog should have gotten a medal as IMO he was doing his job of protecting his master whether he was there or not. The burglar knows he taking a risk and has to abide by how that falls out.
