Night Vision Goggles To Stop An Ambush

Maybe we who now owe over $60,000 each because of government spending should get a few surplus ones, even if it's older generation systems that have been upgraded.

 

I prefer the use of a Night Vision Monocular, which allows rapid shouldering of a Night Vision Scoped Rifle. ATN makes many outstanding NV Monocular, but they are a bit pricey. If all your looking for is 2X, check out Bushnell. JMHO.

There's a really nice gen lll monocular with helmet and mount, switches off when raised, and a rifle mount on the local craigslist for $2200.00. the guy bought it about six months ago, intending to do some nocturnal hogging but decided he just couldn't get used to ambient light in one eye and night vision in the other. I saw the receipt where he paid $3800.00, truth be told, his wife probably called him out on being a couch commando. Wish I had the bucks to spare, my couch could use some see in the dark.

 

I could use a sweet night vision scope!

 

...even $2200 is a bit steep for something that one honestly would get little use from; however, having said that, it is one of those items that if you do need it then it is priceless. In the Deputy's case, he needed it and had it and its possibly saved his life and lives of those he was with.

On the 7.62 x 51 mm systems or larger, the ATN ANPS-22 mounts forward of the day scope. The eye relief on those Old Gen 3 NVS just isn't long enough to stop scope eye on anything over 5.56 - 7.62 x 39 mm. JMHO.

 

On the subject of NV stuff I'm of the some is better than none camp. Current NV can run 7k pretty quick and therefore is out of most folk's reach. The rooskie stuff has come along way since it was first introduced in this country. My first piece of NV gear was an old vietnam era starlight weapon scope. LOL, weighed as much as the M14!! The next piece was a Russian 1st gen monocular. It used a AA battery for the built in infra red, but it wasn't needed on a clear Colorado night. The unit itself was powered by squeezing a lever built in the unit just under the carry strap. Worked pretty well for under 100 bucks. I used it to cheat when playing hide n go seek with my daughters on camping trips. Stuff we have now is 2nd and 3rd gen. I still prefer the monocular but it can take awhile to get used to it for some folks. I only have one weapon mounted unit and that is similar to the one pictured in an above post.
I have to put NV in the "nice to have" category. There are many things a survivalist/prepper should have on their list above NV, but when one is ready by all means "git some." The cheaper stuff will still give a person an advantage over 80% of the herd out there. Make sure whatever you purchase uses batteries that are easy to find/rechargeable.

 

There is a lot of Gen 1 - Gen 2+ NV out there in the low hundreds. It gives you an edge over those without, but paints you up like a tree on fire for others with NV.Prices are falling and in a few years I expect to see some Gen 3 systems on the low end

Night vision is one of this things almost any body can get, if their goal is to raid or defend the BOL.
The military has it, and uses it as well as the police force ,they are every where.
So like the gun, those with them have the upper hand, over those that don't .
When there is a war, those with the most sophisticated advanced technology ,will have the upper hand till it is all spent ,which could be a long time into the event .
For $150.00 I got from "Big 5" a XGenPRO, 3X magnification to 6X Zoom.

Being my first ,it's taking time to learn it ,( It;s loaded with controls) but from what I can tell, I think i got a good deal .
I wish it were a scope mount, but this will work for defensive strategies.
Having it is one thing, knowing all it's functions and using it; .but secondly, to see if others are using something similar possibly against you is another .

 

Just remember that the systems are totally passive if you don't fire up the IR Iluminator.

 

After talking about it , I took mine out last night just to play a bit, and the dumb thing came on but I got no picture, so I changed batteries and it still didn't work. I was getting frustrated. then I looked to see the lens cover was still on .
