    Coming to a state near you.......

    The Dori Monson Show has obtained an internal WSDOT email that details the Transportation Commission’s effort to turn every road in Washington state into a toll road.

    We first told you about this plan 16 years ago; we had a source who told us about the “20-year-plan” to toll every road in the state. You might pay $12 to drive into downtown Seattle during morning drive-time. You might pay 25 cents to drive to your neighborhood grocery store at midnight. Every road would be tolled.

    At the time, politicians ripped me for the “false story” I reported. But, of course, we now know that it’s 100 percent accurate.

    I have obtained a staff email sent by WSDOT Deputy Secretary of Transportation Keith Metcalf. In it, he details the four methods the commission will use with volunteers in a pilot program to test a road tolling plan:

    Participants will have four mileage collection options to choose from for the test:

    –a mileage permit (no technology involved – buy a block of miles and drive until you run out – will do quarterly reporting to confirm permit validity, either in person or via text);

    –odometer read (report your odometer in person or via text quarterly);

    –mileage meter (utilizes device that plugs into cars telematics port – comes GPS-enabled or not);

    –and smartphone (uses an app on your smartphone to report miles).

    Participants will get mock invoices so they can see how a RUC impacts them vs the gas tax, as well as to simulate the experience of being charged per mile rather than by the gallon of gas.

    Does that sound good to you? Buying a “block of miles” every quarter and driving until you run out? Or having the state track your every movement in your vehicle? Reporting to them every three months?

    They are doing this for two reasons:
    1) They want more of our money. They told the car manufacturers they had to improve fuel efficiency. They told us to drive less or get electric vehicles. Then they complain about gas tax revenues going down.

    2) But even more importantly, this is an attempt to control our lives and get us out of our vehicles. If you work in sales and call on clients, or if you are a tradesman — a plumber or electrician — you have your tools in your vehicle. You can’t take mass transit. If you are a parent, you might leave work and rush to get your kids to their piano lessons or their soccer practice. Maybe you’re a community volunteer and coach your kids’ basketball team. The social engineers in our state have contempt for those virtuous workers and families because a car is a necessity in our lives – and they despise those of us who don’t have mass transit as an option.

    Turning every road into a toll road will crush a lot of poor, middle-class, and working-class families in our state. And you know, every tax that is implemented is jacked up as fast as possible. Look at the tolls on the Narrows Bridge and on I-405. Look at what has happened with the sales tax that was 4.5 percent when I was a kid and is now over 10 percent. If they can make every road a toll road, watch how fast those tolls rise in pursuit of their obsessive desire to get all of us out of our cars.

    I’ve heard from couriers, from delivery and Uber drivers, from busy single-parents — a wide range of people who have told me how tolling every road will crush them financially.

    We must do everything we can to stop this plan. I’ve been warning about this for 16 years. It is close to happening. I will do everything I can to stop it. I will need your help. Our collective voice must be loud and clear to oppose this continuing war on cars.

    Plan to turn every road into a toll road

    Simple dung heaps have not figured out that if you raise taxes, revenue often drops?

    What happens when they succeed and get people out of their cars?
    Then few people are paying tolls and they will need to search for yet another source of revenue.

    Perhaps people should be asking what happened to all the tax money ( probably in the hundreds of millions, plus federal highway funds) that was supposed to be used for roads. Did the state use it to support and fund illegals instead?

    I do not object to the principle of "tolls everywhere". It's the details that bother me.

    The idea is very libertarian, which I like: If you use the road, you pay for the road. If you do not use the road, you're off the hook. What's wrong with that?

    But if this is just another social engineering plot, or to collect data, or if the toll is not going to eliminate some other tax, or the amount charged is well above the true cost of maintaining the road so they can funnel the money into other unrelated stuff, then we have gone beyond simply funding roadways. Now I have a problem.

    I great faith in the government's ability to take a basically sound ideal and f**k it up.

    They could develop a permanent in-body device to measure our breathing rate and tax us for the air we breath.

    That would make couch potatoes out of athletes and cause innumerable early deaths. Then what happens to the revenue stream? (It's called killing the goose.)

    We have one of the highest gas tax rates in the nation......and they have no plan to reduce that tax, if they get tolling in-place.

    They never have enough money. It's always some new get rich quick scheme. CA nearly passed a single payer plan that would have cost them $10k per year per person (and their estimates are always low). My super liberal friend said no worries, the rich will pay more (their fair share or some such twaddle), and I did the math for him. There is no uber baddie hoarding enough cash to pay your fair share of an additional $10k per year per family member. Holy heaven, don't they bother to teach math anymore?

    Paying the toll fee when moving out of Washington state may be the wisest money you ever spent!

    I think the weirdest tax I have heard of is the tax Washington has on liquor/spirits (anything over 24%) which is 20.5% and they voted it in themselves!!! I guess now everyone is bitching so now they are suppose to phase it out over 10 - or 20 years or something...good luck with that, like it will ever happen. Friggin idiots!

    Frankly, I think you are all short sighted when it comes to this tax thing... I think the long game is take all our income and give us only what they determine we need, sort of a Communist theme but under a disguised of Democracy. Democracy...there is another lie we have had crammed down our throat to make us manageable and their taste of crap palatable.

    I have lost all faith in our government and quite a lot in our country because of idiots like those in Washington State...and I lived there for 20 years, grew up there but saw what it was turning into in 1994 when I went back there for 7 months and chose to go to Bosnia just to get out of there. Believe me, it was an easy choice... I think the end of my patience will be at the end of the year when I will be fined for not having medical insurance...yet $50 billion was given in Foreign Aid in 2017, amongst all the other mismanaged and willful waste.

    I'm beginning to wonder when this creeping theft is going to end. What ever happened to standing one's ground rather than hauling out?

    At least I will have time to bail out of Oregon before they copy the law here. Anytime one state finds a new way to milk more money from the taxpayers all the neighboring states get revenue envy and the politicians can't sleep until they get it there but even more so. How long before the West Coast States completely alienate all the producers and lose all their cash flow?
