How does the .gov and sheeple see us?
Survivalist is equated with gun toting malitia.
Self Reliant/sufficant is seen as a 'hippy' attitude.
Is it a way of life, a way of thinking or a lifestyle?
What about the Mormons, Amish and the Mennonites?
Can it not also be a religion?
When does it become food hoarding?
Does the .gov feel that it is a threat to 'their' control" to have 'enough' to survive X number of days/weeks/months/years?
I would think the .gov would welcome us as to being less of a drain on the 'FEMA' type agencies, less .gov dependent.

How do we change their attitudes towards 'us'?

OK how does this tie into F/L
Do we not have the freedom and liberty to prepare ourselves?
Are we not at liberty to be ready for a shtf senario?
At what point in our preps are at odds with .gov?
Is it food hoarding, water hoarding, firearms and ammo?
How many seeds can I have? How many cans of beans?
Would it be 'right' for .gov to tell us how much of anything we can have?
The sheeple's view of those that prepare is that they are 'nuts', crazy, stupid, after all the .gov will take care of us.
I Know that there is no easy answer to changing their attitude towards us but I was just wondering how we can try.
This board and others like it are a start, a very good start. been going on for many years for a fact.
How else do we reach them? Ramble on,,,,,,,You see what I mean I suppose.
Do we need a front man to be exposed to the media? How do we attain the coverage from the mass media?

    be free, stay free

Most of us are mildly paranoid. To a greater or lesser extent, we think the .gov (or whatever is behind it) is out to get us. Moreover, we are pretty quiet about how we live and what we do, pretty keep to ourselves types. In a way it's a community, possibly a parallel to Mormons, Mennonites or what have you, in that amongst ourselves we can talk of things that concern us, at least over the web. Not quite the same thing as over the back fence, nor to the same detail as might if face to face (just because of the ability for .gov to overhear us.) A leader, a face man for what we do and how we do it? You'll not find one here.NO!!

As a rule, we are pretty private people. Not antisocial by any means, but private. Any of us might be capable of leadership in some sort of catastrophy, but to stand up to the slings and arrows of political assault, ain't none of us going to do that. For that service, you need a politician, and I think they are in short supply in our community. But if we find one that thinks "right" we can support him, quietly.

A more interesting question: Rather than how do we reach them, one could ask why reach them at all? They can figure it out themselves and do their own quiet preps as independent, free to do so people, or drown when the ark floats.

The modern terror campaign creates a very interesting paradigm, where fear illicits change brought on by the frightened citizenry, and with each terror scare the average dissenter becomes categorized as a terrorist.

The days of dreaming for a revolution has ended because the people have decided to permit their governments to decide for them what is best and what would be safe. Try assembling in large masses or even dare attack a gov building and you will instantly become the enemy that the television has drawn a picture of. The majority of citizenry still believe that what is occuring is just as described in technicolor, and in full surround sound.

With each act supporting the war against terror, another chance to rid a tyrannous government becomes lost in the sea of disinformation and mindshare.

The only chance to reckon with the terrible truth is to prepare silently, find others of like mind, and hope for a better world after the storm. The only alternative is to stand and fight...ultimately resisting the change which is coming. Doing nothing at all is never a choice to be made, as indifference is simply nothing more than the lack of will and courage to do what is right and just.

Even wise men do foolish things when they are afraid. In our case...we can only hope that these events can make fools wise.

No man's store's of beans and rice is a threat to anyman, save the ones wishing to ceonsolidate total control in a most evil way; wielding the power of famine...
The stage is indeed perfectly set for next Tim mcveigh or Ruby ridge: It's what everyone has been told to expect. ( .gov "Good" any dissenter obviously a "terrorist" (whatever in hell that means anymore).
The .gov will be "right " no matter how much crushing force is brought to bear, and the sheeple will thank them for it.

Thing about "acquiring a political cadre" politicians are are people motivated by power ,greed/ money, surely the antithesis of the people here. I think we would find our hired gun "professional" politicians repugnant after none too long.

    OK paranoid

Keep it all to yourself, Not let anyone know, except your own. (If they listen). Hey 72 hrs is good enough... maybe,,, That is what .gov says.... Not a threat to any man,,,,,,,([tng2] (just for you harr harr. ) Maybe the great unwashed do not deserve to live but is it for us to decide??? The free man can decide for him (her) self. Yes I put myself at risk by talking and walking the walk.....I do let people know that I am prepared..... they also know not to knock on my door when (not if ) it happens. [gun] It is not just a game,an, if then, a 'hey we be ready' thing. I do understand that It is in 'our' best interest not to advertise what 'we' have. Yes it is scarry., but how else do we awake the massed. Yes I know is not in 'our' best interest? I would rather have people that have some stuff put away than people that have none. So how is it that so many can say 'hide it away?' Let no one know, do not spread the 'word' of prepardness? Yes I do put myself and some of mine at risk in the hope some maybe will listen....Hey alot of my family don't hear what I say.... [beat]
I know what is at risk,,,,,,,,,,I know what I may have to do,,,,,,,,,If it keeps one person, one family, one child safe, in my place or elsewhere is it not worth the risk??

Disarming the American citizenry will have to be gradual, as it has been for decades. Once a certain level of disarmament is reached, then gradual lawmaking will have to outlaw numerous types of weapons, until no more can be purchased legally on the open market. With the advent of terror-scare campaigning, natural disasters calling in the need for armed troops, and anti-crime legislation, the searches and seizure of property and weapons will only continue to escalate. A great example of the power a corrupt government has over its unsuspecting public is Wako, Texas. Another is the actions taken in New Orleans during the hurricane disaster. With the increase in terror alerts comes a sense of panic among most average citizens, and they will only demand more policing, more protection, and more legislation on the part of government. Most will welcome the new gun control standards because they believe it will reduce crime.

In order to effectively negate any uprising, all that is needed is reassurance from the corporate media. Dissenters will be arrested, processed, and jailed in any of our thousands of massive prisons. Large numbers will be placed in confined areas such as prison camps, or work camps either temporarily or permanently. The lack of cohesion and organization on the part of the citizenry will prove to be beneficial for the policing authorities to trace, investigate, and detain any suspects. Then we get into the control grid, where phones and internet use are monitored, travel restrictions and road blocks, toll areas and cameras keep people locked down in geographic zones which are easier to manage. If any large city area becomes uncontrollable, then an explosion or a chemical "leak" caused by terror cells could neutralize an uprising. Of course, the media will keep you informed and prepared. You will be able to go outside periodically to receive your rations at specified times of the week, and controlling authorites will be certain not too many people ever congregate for too long. A strict curfew will be necessary to ensure your safety. And nevermind the armed troops. They are only there to protect and serve.

I don't know. Too 1984 for my liking.

I love the optimism on this board. It is just infectious.

Before Katrina, do you remember when the Gov. answered questions about the threat of dirty bombs and recommended that citizens have plastic, duct tape, food, water, batteries, etc. put back? Network media had a field day with it. After Katrina I remember hearing and reading about the Gov. requesting that everyone have a certain amount of supplies put back. The Gov. doesn't want to blow billions on FEMA aid because people cannot make the most basic of preparations, however when something happens they will take what you have to evenly distribute it for the "greater good." Now I am not talking about firearms here, I wholeheartedly believe they will confiscate them at first opportunity. I am talking about food, water, fuel, etc. That is why you must not let everyone know what you have, not to mention that they would also take the opportunity to seize them along with the Gov.

I also try to lead people in the right direction, but I don't tell them I am a survivalist or any such thing. I don't think I am, I am just a regular guy that likes the feeling of not having to depend upon the Gov. in the event of a emergency. When you go to relatives or friends homes, take a look in their pantry. I do. I have bought cases of canned goods, ramen noodles, etc. and given them to family members to put back. We have some friends in Ok. that weathered a week long ice storm this year, they had plenty but it made a big impression upon them to stock up even more. It's the same philosophy that I have about vehicles. I always buy the 4x4's. I would rather have and not need it, then need it and not have it.

Little by little. A few extra cans here, a few extra bottles of water there, help to lead people in the right direction.
