Even my Decathalon is vulnerable! Thanks to the full loaded Garmin nav/instrument package! The system requires updates for Nav pretty often and that exposes you to hacking. What happens, you get a no go on your instrument pack and have to ether plug in to a laptop, or use a flash drive, to upload updates and that's the weekness! Not sure about commecial aircraft, but most use the same type of system I have, and if they have to update on an unsecured system, or a laptop that could be dangerous!
yep several subsystems are vulnerable not just the nav many commercial aircraft are vulnerable, plus general aviation aircraft of all types are even more vulnerable
With every thing done fly-by-wire now days, and with the need to update systems externally, it open them up to a lot of bad potential! This was part of the reasons for powering down laptops and cell phones while on the ground! The Aircraft should be secure on its own, it's when it gets plugged in to an external network that opens them up to risks! Even then, the subsystems should be separated enough to limit threats. Mine would only effect instruments and nav, but that could be life threatning as key nav data could be corrupted causing a crash us if flying I.F.R.
Yea, but!!!! Seriously, this Garmin combo is super sweet, has storm scope, glide slope, moving maps on a 17 inch desplay, and full engine and flight insterments, all digital and fully customizable in flight! I wouldn' trade my Super Decathalon for any thing! Lol
Got an aeneroid altimeter, pitot tube, and compass for backup with the charts in the map case? Assuming a complete loss of power, they may be useful.
My Old Taylorcraft had a Compass, Altimeter, Pitot Tube, Turn & Bank Inclinometer, and Tack... Worked for me...No electronis at all...
