I'd say, as good as some of the 'police sketches' seen of 'suspects'. And the image is reportedly based on DNA.

So, DNA derivative 'science' has now entered into our lives - like it or not.

Does this level of 'science' bother you at all?

While I can see some utility for police/seeking lost family, I also see this could be misused in many ways. It also strikes me as something right out of a SciFi novel....

All technogy has it's light and dark sides.

 

I will not submit any DNA for testing, for genealogy or that disease testing just because I don't trust where it would end up. Not that I'm running from the law, just don't see the need to be willingly adding myself to some .gov database.
With today's laws and lawyers , the guy might pull more time for the illegal dumping than the murder.

 

In Australia the government screen everyone aged 50 and over for bowel cancer. They send you a kit in the mail and you return it with a small stool sample. I don't know if they can get your dna profile from this sample or not, butt my kit went straight into the rubbish bin.

 

We have taken a very healthy bite of the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Too bad we didn't notice the worm.

My wife has been after me to send our DNA in to find out where we come from but...but I have managed to dodge it; however, I cannot actually explain why. I think it is because there is already so much intrusion into our lives by the government and even commercial entities, you just can't keep them out.

Yes, but I cannot say why. Call it instinct or just plain old paranoia...

Scary! I can see all sorts of abuse of this! I'm especially concerned about unknowingly and unwillingly having my DNA sampled and put into a data base for future use with out consent. Having all sorts of things added to the knolage base that can be used against me! It's the same as having a chip installed for various reasons only to have data mined later, or attached to me in some way of control! It's the intrusion into our intimate lives that bothers me the most, and I'm fearful of the future! Just because you can, didn't mean you should!

One phase often used was "There Are Things Man Was Not Meant to Know" (insert sinister laugh here)

 

Never cared enough about my ancestry to send in a DNA sample.

But I can see it in the future when the government takes over health care and uses DNA as a basis for determining statistically how long you would live (using some formula that no one can figure out). That can then be used to cut off any future medical care after a certain age.

 

Abuse of this technology by both the public and private sector is the basis of the movie Gattaca.

My sister did the ancestry DNA thing. No need for me to do it, our results would be the same.

 

Just saves me the money of moving to Zimbabwe - now I can experience genocide in the comfort of my own home...

 

I do believe someday they will take DNA samples at our birth... I would bet on it.

 

My brother did the DNA thing - he got a gift certificate from one of his co-workers (what can I say, the guys a nerd with a PhD)

Turns out, the "DNA company" said we are pretty much Euro-trash. All that was missing was the trailer park. I thought it was pretty funny....

I told my brother they likely threw a couple of darts at a map board or used a random country generator to write the 'report'.

 

Hehe..... Same with us. We already knew both Dad's and Mom's family histories. What the DNA test did do was finally put to rest Mom's family myth of a Cherokee indian connection, by way of a forebear supposedly having an Indian mother. Nope, not according to DNA. Dang, there goes my dreams of inheriting an Indian Casino......

 

I was the strongest fastest sperm that made it to the egg first!
That's all the DNA testing needed.
Besides if I submitted mine some company would patent it and make millions leaving me to eat dust.
