SOOOO whats your thoughts on the tariff?

Jobs? good for America? Bureaucratic BS? I'm upset panels will be more expensive, but my Patriotic side is strugglin.

 

On Chinese imports? I'm for it. Without it, US manufacturers wouldn't be able to compete. Chinese labor costs are low. Much of Asia is, in fact. That certainly applies to Southeast Asia.

Heck, even here in Cambodia, you can get laborers for $5.00 USD per day, or less.

 

If it helps to keep our wealth and manufacturing base in the US, I'm all for it. I already buy as much made in US as I can, followed by Canada and pay the higher price.

 

The U.S. Needs to curtail business with China if we wish to compete locally! China isn't at fault here, WE ARE!
Part of me is pissed that the sheeple choice is THIS product to go after, but I guess it could be worse!

 

Tarriffs are part of the checks and balances to fair trade. Our county has slid so far backwards from it's greatness as a manufacturing empire leading the world, that now days we outsource most everything. There needs to be a balance. I would like to have the opportunity to buy American more. I am for the tariffs, the wall, border security, penalties for sanctuary cities, the usage of e-check for valid ssn before employment, fines against employers who chose to hire illegals anyway. There will be some rough spots to making all this work, but I believe America will be better for it.

 

Damn strait tac! There is light in the tunnel, there are a few companies that are bring production back to the states, but more needs to be done! Stop building in Canada and Mexico too, bring those companies back to the states. I' more apt to buy American too, ( except for European cars) but most every thing else, I want to buy here, made here, by Americans!

 

Exactly, we are trading our wealth and jobs for mostly cheap throwaway junk. If we keep going we will be a third world country controlled by outside interests like the Banana Republics.

 

Ditto what Tac said! ...But, I think "fines against employers who chose to hire illegals anyway" should be so extreme that they dare not hire an illegal. I am talking ruining the S.O.B.s., so much so, no one would even consider it. And, the Work Visas holes should be plugged so they cannot get around said fines in that manner because they will!

Furthermore, ask yourself this... Does China put tariffs on imported American goods? Or, does China allow for fair and equal trade practices by American companies within their country?

China needs America more than America needs China. Stop and think what happens if tomorrow a HUGE trade war with China erupts. OMG!!! No more imports! It would be a bit of a pain but overnight, thousands of new companies would spring up which employ people producing tax revenue and allowing Welfare and Unemployment and etc. to go down. What happens in China? People go out of work and go hungry and China's number one concern, the BIG #1, is feeding her people and keeping them working... or else. That country is much closer to civil unrest than most of the other major powers, much closer.

 

We can start by raising import tariffs at the ports and terminals on individual TEU's using an accurate value declared per unit. Start Tariff on the ships entering port facilities, and on the fuel sold to them! Take back "Ownership" of the ports and terminals, negotiate with the Unions, and start going after the trucking companies that hire illegals! Build up the rail system to handle more shipping to more locations using the hub method, and go with more intermodal trucking to off set the needed increase wages for drivers, while shortening transit distances! We have a lot of work HERE in order to compensate for a decrease in imports! Need to negotiate FAIR trade with our trading partners, make China Pay to Play!

 

What I want is complete fair trade. I want American companies to have free access to China markets - period. What we give to China we should receive in return and if not then they don't get it.

 

Would be great. But, not going to happen. Tariffs on imports is the best we will do.

 

Start holding back the food shipments and watch how fast China steps up to the negotiating table! Now all we need to do is get off the middle east oil tit, which then makes Oil a far more competitive venture for US, that we can then market AGAINST the Opec cartels around the world!

 

We need to protect our economy.

We also need to fiercely defend our copyright/trademark laws against Chinese theft.

 

Resources and labor are far cheaper in China than here, so they would win with unrestricted free trade. How bad is it? Every day ships are filled with raw timber in Lonview, WA, where they are sent to Asia to be turned into dimensional lumber and sheets and are then shipped back to us. It's cheaper to ship it there to be processed and shipped back here than it is to do it all here. In addition to tariffs we should limit the exportation of natural resources unless all or most of the value is added here. Let them harvest their own trees.

 

Lord only knows how many products per year the Chinese reverse engineer, only to manufacture a similar, but much lower quality item.

One thing Americans don't realize is, they need to stop buying Chinese junk. Whenever possible, I buy American, UK, Mainland European, or Australian / New Zealand manufactured products. It just depends on what I'm seeking.

I could buy cheap, Chinese made hats here. But, I happily pay much more (including shipping costs), for authentic Australian crafted hats. I own a number of Jacaru hats, for example.

A Parks Koolaroo (canvas) is one of my favorites. A Roo Squashy (roo and cow leather) is another.

 

The problem I have with American manufactures is , when there is little competition quality goes out the window.
The 400,000 mile Toyota put American car manufacturers on their ear. especially ford doing at best 60k miles . And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Another serious problem is the unions.
They have done more to cause inflation than any one.
People over extend them selves financially and pressure the companies they work for to cover their own irresponsibility . This is wrong .
In the beginning I can agree safety was big issue, but now that government has safety regulations in place the issue is moot .
Pay should not be equal across the board, but relevant to the workers own productivity and the agreement with in the contract between the employee and the company.

I have a relative that unionized shops . I understand the inside of the beast . (some what)
Another problem I see is that American manufacturers tend to start well, get the ball going with a good product and then begin cheapening the product, compromising the parameters of their own patent.
I bother to look inside stuff when it fails .
If the government is serious about fixing America ,it should start with all their alphabet agencies and private interest group influencing congressional votes .
Obey the laws that already exist and imprison those that abuse it. Especially those in government .

 

What I hear is a lot of Libs bitching about Trump destroying the solar industry here and putting thousands out of work but my thinking is that solar is a need that industry here will have to step up to fill. The short term might cost some jobs but solar is too essential to degenerate and in the long term, we'll be better for moving the manufacture here. Some think it's a stupid ploy but I truly see a deeper advantage to our economy and the solar industry.

 

@Kamchuka are you talking about the 30% solar panel tariff? I have heard people that this 30% will bring Chinese panels to the same cost of American made panels. I am wondering if the solar experts here on the monkey see a difference in quality.

 

Well retard thought he could just give money to build factories here and compete with China.

US and German made panels are the best but the US panels cost 2x to 4x the price of Chinese panels, last time I checked.
I don't even know what German panels cost.
So Chinese panels will still be cheaper.
