I received a news release from Ruger and they mentioned new stocks for American rifles that take larger magazines. I clicked on it and got nothing. Anyone hear anything about it?

Ruger American Rifle® with New Modular Stock
The new Ruger American Rifle® models feature a new modular stock that accepts alternative mag wells for use with non-Ruger American Rifle rotary magazines. Depending on caliber, these new stocks will allow for the use of AI-Style, AR-Style, Mini Thirty® or Ruger American Rifle® magazines (short-action, long-action or magnum).

Be nice if they accepted AR style PMAGS. I think one bolt action rifle chambered in .308 and manufactured by Savage takes the same PMAGS used by the AR-10 style rifles.

If Ruger makes it is probably a good rifle and he does stand behind his product. It is a modern rifle as the parts breakdown shows, and looks like it. I know price is involved and understand that, but for his bolt actions I have always loved the Gunsite scout and depending on which model, year and aftermarket you have a good range of choices. In the single shots, some of us old farts still like them, his drop action is still a dream. My favorite Mauser action is still the old Springfield the government gave me over 60 years ago and though over the years I have bought many rifles, single shot, auto loading, bolt action, break action, the whole thing, from new, used , surplus to build them yourself, etc, but if I had to pick one defensive rifle and cartridge to survive with, it would be the Springfield and 3006. I know there is a lot more 308 ammo out there, but you go home with the lady you took to the dance. To me the Ruger American looks like a good modern rifle for those in the entry model crowd with a good selection of cartridges available and now that they want almost as much as that for a beat up old European surplus rifle with a wood stock, questionable barrel, and either "sporterized with a file" or heavy and awkward, it would seem to be a good choice.
Good gun porn and I enjoyed looking at it. Thank you.

I know MagPul is coming out with a new stock for the American that will take MagPul magazines. It was supposed to be out at the end of last year, now it's spring of '18. It will be interesting to see if Ruger can beat MagPul and what the price point will be.

I have had outstanding luck with the M-77 and the HawkEyes all these years, and especially the Guides, both in .30/06 and .338 WIn mag.
I have heard rumors that Mag-pull was trying to do bottom metal and mags for Rugers and Savage, they already do Remington as long as they are Short Action. I also hear Mag-pull is working with ACIS to cover Long Action rifles, THIS would be YUGE for us large rifle length action guys, especially the ability to carry more then 5 rounds! Would love to convert My M-77 Alaskan Guide .338 to a detachale mag for hog huntin, would make the big bore AR's pointless to me!

I would like a scout style rifle. But with a 22-inch barrel. The rifles offered are about twice as much as a regular bolt action hunting rifles. So if Ruger offered an American rifle with the ability to use a larger magazine. And the price was good. That would be a good seller.

Scout Rifle has evolved in my eyes.

The 7.62x39 in a 16 inch AR Platform is only 6.5 pounds.

Yea, Scout Scout Rifles has evolved for me as well! I prefer the much older design of a "Stalking Rifle" that takes a high power cartridge at full power, and still has a relatively short 22 inch barrel!
Here is my works in progress Stalking Rifle! 1903 Springfield Sporter .30/06 with Marbles rear sight, and Redfield Front with adjustable insert. This rifle will not have a scope, relying only on Irons, and will regain it's ability to employ both versions of the Bayonet used on the original 03's and Garand's and 1897's! One of the best things about these Springers is the ability to employ Stripper Clips faster then any other bolt action, making detachable mags unneeded accessories, and a speed reload of 5 more rounds during a string of disciplined fire is a thing of beauty!
In my mind, THIS is what a modern Scout Rifle should be, Light, fast, handy, and super accurate at decent ranges in a powerful cartridge capable of stopping any animal threat up to and including arms reach!!!
