You'll probably get a LOT of replies on this one! I personally have a few guns for post SHTF use. I have a .22 for small game, 12Ga for just about anything, an SKS for two legged predators and possibly game, a Ruger .45 auto and a .357 revolver for me, and a .38 snubbie for the wife. I PERSONALY feel that mix will serve me well under almost any conditions. Anyone else want to chime in? drat, want to provide any more info on what uses you are planning for this gun to be put to?

For Meat.... Ruger Red Label o/u 12 gauge & Marlin 22 rifle

    For Zombies.... DPMS AR15

For Zombies inside the home.... Big 357 for me, little 357 for the wife

I plan on upgrading the "zombie rifle" to an M1A at some point.

I like the 1911 .45 and AR platform. My biggest problem is that I have just enough different calibers and different models that the MZBs/Zombies would eat me while I was truing to decide which gun to grab. I have hunting rifles that work well for their purpose, and short barrel shotguns that work well for home defense, but the AR and .45 would be what I would grab for general purpose.

I mean "me" as in "me/I" personally as in they have a division dedicated solely to tracking me, the person, down. It is a joke that I guess I need to reword.

No sir..... not alone on this board for sure. [winkthumb]

Now back to the shtf gun thing.......

I still say that although it's not my favorite firearm by a long shot, If I HAD to rely on one gun for everything.... it would be a 12 gauge pump with
a good selection of chokes and loads.

00 Buckshot for deer and zombies at close range (And I'd bet real good on turkeys too)
Slugs for deer and zombies at out to 100 yds
and a selection of shot from BB to 7&1/2 for everything from squirrel and rabbit, to doves, quail, pheasant, ducks, geese, on and on.....

    Pretty darn versatile gun.

this is not shif gun, but an a good thing to have.
for in the home, i would look at the electronic ear muffs, i have shot a .380 in a house before and it will ring your bell, a .357 would X2 or more ring your bell and do more ear damage that the .380 did.
i keep my electronic ear muffs near my quick grab .45 and they will let hear every thing and cut off the shot.

cdnn had these cheaper but they look like they are out.
midway has them for $25 more. i should have gotten another set from cdnn.

I had bought a set of peltor tactical 6S behind the head band electronic and they are rated only for 19db protection, not near what is needed, I replaced the foam inside the cups with a better foam and still have to where earplugs with them. ( I bought them so I could put them on under my army kelvlar helmet).
and it is harder to replace the batterys in the peltor also.

I agree but a 16 inch bbl on a shotgun might just get you in a little bit of trouble with BATF. I'd go with an 18.1" bbl and call it good.

16" is as long as it's a rifle. On a shotgun it needs to be 18"

I would go with a mag. extension as well, and have an extra round or two in the tube.

16 is legal for rifles. 18 for shotguns.

If the S has HTF, then who the hell cares if something is legal or not?

Agreed, but up untill then you might not want to push your luck. [dunno]

Gotta agree on this one. It is easier to take a few inches off after the S has HTF than to put a couple inches back on when the cops pull you over.
