Several places on the board lately I have read postings stating "Our/this country the America of our parents is long and irretrievably gone".
Too many posts to be just a wash of malaise or "melancholy ( has anyone used that word since 1954?).

So what's left? Building individual( family) lifeboats??? Something about that feels inadequate...What would Thomas jefferson suggest??? ( once he finished playing "Sim city" on the computer?)

Don't read this to mean I am pining for the easy "two bit armchair commando answer of " take up arms and march on d.c"... then what, do you want to become the office of health andhumanservices? me neither. Like the folks who automatically want you to buy gold as the answer to everything from financial ruin to diahrhea or syphallis.Too quick an answer, think it through...

We've got the internet (for now); politicians who still want to garner votes ( no matter how cynical we may be of the "system"); Some semblence of the legal system left. Is it just our point of view? ( stragglers hanging on to the old order (Change is not always necessarily a bad thing; but. Killing the goose who lays the golden eggs is never a good idea .)[dunno][dunno]comments??

oh i do believe that the USA of old is done'ski... the values that penned the declaration of independence and constitution are a dying breed. the type of americans that held to there believes so strongly that they were willing to fight there own countrymen over it are gone. the generation that stood up against germany and japan is fading, and as time marches on a little of what made the last generation a shining role model is some how lost. now i could place the blame on a great many thing from MTV, video games, both parents having to working...ect.ect.ect. but i feel the reason is closer to most people don't care, and will let our great nation, its honorable history, it's possible future slip from there hands.

The old saying."You can never go home again" is correct. I came back to a home that has been in my family for well over 100 years. The house is my home. The property it sets on is my home. But the town I returned too is not the one I left.

Apathy has taken hold of this country, much as it did in the 1930's. The only real concern of the individual is that their rice bowl is full. And unless something directly influences how full that bowl is, they just do not care.

News that use to take hours if not days to reach us is now being broadcast almost as the smoke is clearing. It numbs the senses till people are immune to much of the realities of life. Which is one reason that the reality shows on television are so popular. It creates a fantasy reality for people to escape into.

I could carry this on for hours, but our reality is simply that life as we knew it is history, regardless how much we'd prefer it to the one we might have now. We can hate it, dream of that which once was, and be a royal pain in the ass to those that do not care. We do not have to accept what is happening, nor the manner in which it is happening. We can go out screaming and kicking. But the reality is we cannot turn back the clock.

Myself, I'm enjoying reminding folks here abouts that I did things in their name to allow them to enjoy the life they live. And also remind them I am now the town elder by birthright. May not be the oldest person in town, but certainly the oldest bloodline.

I can never go home again, but I'll not let those about me off easy.
