Today I was driving behind a tahoe that had those stickers on the back that had a little cartoon stick figure of each member of the family with their names under each one.

    i.e.

Jim, Sue, Jim jr, Sara, Sandy, Fido

Who else here thinks this is a horrible idea and why?

I can think of at least 10 different scenarios where this could really put your family in danger.

    what is wrong with people?

As someone who lives as anonomously as possible, I too am always amazed by people's desire to be identified. It's so contrary to my mindset.

    Self promotion, its fashionable.
I have no stickers on my vehicles. When I was in college, I did have a sticker with a round circle, and inside the circle it said "FAT CHICKS" and then it had a line running through it. In retrospect, it was awful. [beat]
Now a days if I had any sticker on my vehicles it would probably say "Steal it, Pit bull with AIDS on board."

I agree with you both. On the way to my office I just saw a mini van it had a soccer ball with the name Jason and a cheerleading microphone thing that said "CHEER" inside it and the the name April underneath it.

"Hey April, how are your parents doing?, oh yeah and how about Jason, what is he up to....?"

Granted kids should know better but with this little bit of info a would be sicko could catch a child off guard bigtime.

When my daughter was young, it was fashionable to have the child's name on their book bag/back pack. I wondered if she would ever forgive me for not allowing it. Of course, she did and now that she has children of her own, some of Mom's crazy ways have become her crazy ways.

There is a dance studio near me that sells the same decals but its even more informative. it has the studio name on it so, you can get the child name and where they go often and most times they also have the "my kid is a blah at soandso middle school."

why not just include address and phone number and pictures..

Yes, I agree that those decals with your kids names are bad, and fortunately my wife agrees with me!

I have seen where on the window was a "dancer" sticker and the name of the child and on the bumper was a sticker for the dance studio - with phone and address. Ok, maybe I'm being paranoid (nah) but some criminals are getting very smart when it comes to selecting a victim. I will do as much as I can to make it as difficult as possible for myself or my family to become victims!

Great point! Those stickers are everywhere around here (except on our cars).

Too many people live in the "it won't happen to me/my family" mindset. I pray, for their child's sake, that they're right.[angelsad]

[ditto] It's baffling. I even make sure to never leave mail lying face up in my car.

Some people are amazingly stupid aren't they ?

Just this week a friend asked me to look at one of her kids computers because they couldn't get online , originally I figured they knocked out a Ethernet wire or something and figured it would be a five minute fix .

Well the thing was so slow it took over 12 minutes to restart despite having over half the HD space empty and them swearing the defragged it regularly . So I figured it had to be a virus of some kind and set to reformatting the drive .

While it was running I gave the kids "Both teenage girls" the speech about accepting dloads from strangers yada yada ya and even chatting with and giving out personal info .

Mom chimes in with how they only talk to friends from school and sports activities etc. .

After reformat computer ran fine but it also had a Bad Ethernet card so I had to get one and came back another day to install it and do an upgrade to Windows XP for them .

While doing all of this I look over at the other computer as they are side by side and see that the youngest child "14" is chatting with someone on MYspace and has just told them she lives in St. Louis .

Now obviously this isn't a local friend and I raised my voice and told her she had just been warned about doing that kind stupid chit ! She gives me this stupid smile and Mom who is close enough to hear the whole thing just stands there like some kind of idiot and doesn't say a thing !

Can't help but wonder how she will feel if they find her kids body in a dumpster one day after being raped and murdered .

    As an experiment:
I noted the name of a female bank teller, Ran a few internet searches on variations of her name. Found her MySpace page. Then hit zabasearch...

Now I knew her name and DOB, where she worked, where she went to college, That she hates having to get up at 6:00 am, her home address, where she hangs out after work and that her boyfriend is currently in Iraq.

One that wanted to abduct this woman would be able to lay out a pretty good plan/trap.

Ya know, I've had family members complain that I like to "read" into things too much and that I know too much about the "bad" side life. My response is usually just a shrug of the shoulders and an "oh well, it's my life". In the back of my mind I'm thinking that all I'm doing is knowing what my enemy knows. The more I know about how they would possibly pursue or dig into my life, the better equipped I'd be to handle any situation that came up.

A funny story from a couple of years ago. I used to help teach a class called S.H.A.R.P. with my martial arts instructor. SHARP - Sexual Harrasment, Assault, and Rape Prevention. I decided to let HR know about this class and my instructor was invited to teach it. During the class we talk about how inmates will discuss how they were caught and how not to get caught, how to improve their skills and such. One of my more "brilliant" co-workers stated that she didn't realize inmates could talk about such thing and didn't really believe that prisons were more for "schooling" felons the rehabilitating them. Well, she didn't believe it at first until we played a video that showed it first hand and have interviews with inmates who said they were better at crime after prison then before.

She's still a sheeple, but at least her eyes have been opened some.

Now do you warn her? And how do you go about that without her thinking your stalking her?
