I tried this gun at the range this weekend. For my smaller hands the grip is great circumference wise, but still a bit short in length, I have a soar spot in the meaty part of my hand from the recoil

    XD-E™ 3.3" Single Stack 9mm - Springfield Armory

Small grips for small hands are somewhat problematic, I have yet to find a good 9mm that has as good of a grip as my SW38 special

Springfield has a nice offering however I wish some one would come up with a 9mm semiauto like the Beretta .22 long rifle 21a , more attuned to those with only one hand . Pop up barrel so the first round does not have to be cycled with the slide. A prosthetic hook cannot grip the slide so those with limited function are hampered .

Have you tried the Glock G43? It solved that problem for my wife who has itty-bitty hands.

I have not handled one, but the Sig P938 might fit your hand better, it could be worth a looksee. It is sorta tiny, and I suspect a bit bucky, but when you get into calibers snortier than a 380 there is a price to be paid. That said, small defensive firearms are more for the carry a lot and shoot little.

I have to say that your wheel gun is perfectly OK for defensive use, and not apt to cause problems with remembering the manual of arms.

You may wish to consider the Zastava M88 is a semi-automatic handgun produced by Zastava Arms, Serbia. Based on the older Tokrev based design. It has a 'Walther' style slide safety that physically blocks the hammer. Price point is around/under $300, NIB w/2 magazines.

It is about the same size of a J-frame 38, while being thinner. I got one for my Daughter and later, she and my SIL so enjoyed it - I got one for him. It is a small frame auto in 9mm.

A word of caution, the trigger is quite stiff initially. This owing to the original design having no manual safety. It gets lighter with use and settles in at slightly less than you might find in DA revolver.

    Maintenance is simple.

a YT video, if nothing else, if shows you how compact the frame is on this...

If you haven't tried it yet take a look at the M&P line and specifically the Shield with the longer magazine.

+one for the M&P Shield, especially the 2.0 series .40 S&W. Wifey really loves hers, and we found it' about the only small pistol my Dad can cycle the slide on reliably!

The slide may have been the thing that sealed it for Mrs 3M - she likes to wear a lot of bling on her fingers and always has nice nails. I mentioned before that we standardized on pistols to keep the battery of arms consistent, and I have come to respect the Shield.

Out of the ones suggested I like the shield best for smaller hands. You should give it a test drive. While they aren't in vogue these days and are a bit larger, I urge you to test out a Browning High Power if you haven't. It's still my all time favorite 9mm/.40 S&W. I used to be a firearm instructor/RO in another life and 90% of my students were Ladies. Many of them ended up with a HP after using mine during classes. In the mean time there isn't anything wrong with your wheel gun:)

Ditto what @3M-TA3 and the rest said about the M&P Shield. You cannot beat them for quality and price and they can fit smaller hands. I'm a Glock guy but I will tell you that the S&W M&P Shield line is at least equivalent to the Glocks for a heck of a lot less cash. And, it's pretty much the same gun...

For weight caliber and grip/ size I always liked the Beretta M1951 Brigadier or Egyptian Helwan
9MM 31 ounces 9 shot single stack 8 round magazine 4 .5 inch barrel very flat made them until 1980

    I looked at
One review from a novice complained the pin that hold the extractor came out -- best way to eliminate that problem is to get rid of the pin tap it for a hex screw, the other complaint was it shot low well you file down the front sight they also complained it shot to the left or right neither is a problem drift the rear sight to point of aim (center of target).

I do not know of too many firearms that do not need a bit of tweaking adjusting altering changing sights we used to call it defanging basic remove all the sharp edges bevel the mag well tinker with the trigger / mainspring so it is smooth no gritty feel then ---- well we kept the frame barrel and slide LOL.
