Since relocating we have not been using our slingshots at all. I looked on Amazon and found some biodegradable ammo. These pellets are made of clay, work pretty good but will leave a smudge mark on your hand if you hold them for too long. We can't shoot far because of the neighbors but these pellets are for practice and will shatter if they hit the fence which is what we wanted. I bought the 3/8" sized pellets and think the bigger ones would be better.

So far we are really happy to be practicing and shooting again. Also, since they are grey and bio-degradable I do not have to worry about picking them up.

If they are biodegradable then you can't reuse the missed shots...
And we will probably result to rocks when our ammo runs out anyway.

Dollar tree gum balls, jaw breakers, and other hard round candies! That's The best bio degradable and frangible sling shot ammo you are likely to find, and most is the same appox size as regular ammo!
For more lethal stuff without buying actual sling shot ammo and paying a premium, glass marbles work amazingly well, and are frangible when they hit hard stuff like rocks, but will still break bone and punch deep into wood! My Daisy Wrist Rocket with tweaked bands will generate about 140 foot pounds using 1/2 Oz. Ammo! Not something to snort at, that sort of power will kill a deer at close range!

If I had to use a biodegradable slingshot ammo I'd have to look for some kind of dried fruit so I could seed large areas without anybody noticing. Here on the beach I have a problem finding perfect slingshot stones, but I could launch prickly pear with a sling and a staff sling loaded with marl sand is devastating at close range.

Your clay projectiles got me thinking about soft clay projectiles. I'm wondering if they'd be a less lethal way to give somebody a hint.
I'm thinking the soft clay would expand on impact and create lots of pain, even if it didn't penetrate skin or break bones.

Not too wild about glass (marbles) 'cause they don't biodegrade and if broken, will cut feet (or whatever). Candy, well, it's best use is in my stomach. I like those clay balls, conceptually.

I use heavy plastic ones to practice, which are biodegradable in about 15,000 years but I use them indoors only. I use a BB/pellet gun trap to hold them in, but they mostly fly all over.

The clay ammo might be a great idea, especially if you don't want to end up eating your ammo or if you live in a very hot climate zone and the candy melts all over your hands or in your pockets. Still, I like the candy idea too because I do get a bit hungry from time to time...

I bought them so we can hangout on the patio and shoot. I didn't want marbles all over the back lawn plus they are pricey for practice. The candy is a good idea but will attract ants but I will pack some fireballs in our bags. They say practice, practice, practice so we are trying to figure out ways that will have low impact while living in our rental.

You practice indoors? Don't the strays damage the walls?

Do you use one of these?

Dad found 50 lb bucket of rusty 7/16" steel nuts he used in his sling shot , mad a beautiful sound buzzing through the air.
I found some steel bearing like balls at the salvage yard not good for much else than sling shot ammo.
Ive got some lead shot for reloading buck shot shells .
When shooting any lead ammo , I have a lead back stop the shot buries it self in, so I"m not throwing it away.

I always thought conkers (horse chestnuts)would make the best ammo..... stabby and eco-friendly

That would be cool. Plus @arleigh is correct I could put stuff in the middle like a pellet or something to make it heavier. These pellets are light weight.

If you just want to shoot close and blow stuff up, Dog Food works great as a light frangible slingshot ammo.
